We came into Downtown Gatlinburg and I held in another sigh of relief as I spotted the Aerial Tramway to Ober Gatlinburg. I pulled into the parking lot and parked. Wait a second, what if I texted a friend to see how Ski Mountain Road was? I took out my phone and texted my friend that worked at Ober Gatlinburg. She responded immediately with a thumbs up. I backed out of the parking space and headed to Ski Mountain Road.
Mitch Grassi: Did you think of another place?
Me: No, the road leading up to the place is clear. So instead of riding the Tram up there we will drive then just ride the tram down and back up.
Kirstin: Okay!
Her voice was cheerful and the normal tone that I have heard before. It made me relax even more.
Mitch: Kailyn, don't feel like you have to impress us.
Me: I'm just going, to be honest with yall. This is my first time ever getting asked to do anything like this. So, I am struggling with finding out what to do or not do.
Kirstin: Kailyn, I understand that this may be hard for you, but listen. We are here for you and act like we have been knowing each other for a long time and that we have never been here before.
I smiled at her when I felt my tires hit the ice. I quickly turned my four-wheel drive on and got two tires in the snow.
Me: Hold on guys, I hope yall trust me.
Kirstin: We do Kailyn.
Her words echoed in my head as I continued up this hill. There was silence as my car struggled to make it up. Come on Kailyn, just a little farther. You got this! Once we made it to the top parking lot, I looked around for a parking space only to find none. We went back to the bottom lot, where I found a space and parked. I got out and breathed with a sigh of relief as I inhaled deeply.
Me: We are going to have to walk to the entrance. So be careful.
As we started to walk to the entrance I decided to keep my eyes on the ground to spot any ice. I obviously wasn't looking close enough because I stepped on a patch of ice and slipped. I felt my ankle twist, which sent a sharp pain up my leg. Scott caught me before I could hit the ground.
Me: Thank you, Scott.
Scott: You okay Kailyn?
Me: I think so, I'll find out once we get up there.
I rubbed my right leg as I groaned in disbelief. What was going on? Pentatonix showed up at my house and asked for help, Malone was acting weird, and now I slipped on ice? When was this day going to end? I looked desperately at my watch and groaned silently as I read the time. Four o'clock. One more hour till supper.
We finally get up to the top without any further complications. Even though my entire right leg was so sore. I was trying to hide my pain. I was scared that they might not want me to help them if they knew I was injured. I smiled with relief as we walked through the entrance. My friend that works there smiled and walked up to us
Hannah Parker: Hey Kailyn! How have you been? And who are your new friends?
Me: Hello Hannah. Good. They are the acapella group Pentatonix. Kirstin Maldonado, Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kevin Olusola, and Matt Sallee.
Hannah: Nice to meet you all. What brings you here to Pigeon Forge?
Scott: We had to cancel the rest of our winter tour because of this winter storm and Kailyn here is allowing us to stay with her till the storm passes.
The way he said it made me wonder if it wasn't just the winter storm that was causing this problem. Did something else happen that caused them to have to cancel their tour? And why couldn't they go home?
