Me and Keish had been going back and forth for a little while in a battle. I'll admit she was pretty good with the whole freestyle thing. I'm beginning to think the younger teens were gonna show us up at the battle tonight. But I was so glad she was geeked for it.
"I wish I had your vocab." she said to me. I just smiled at her.
"You don't need it when you mastered your stage presence and the flow. You got this, don't sell yourself short." I told her. She immediately hugged me.
"If you and Kev ever break up, we still good, right?" she asked me.
"Of course. The relationship that I have with your brother has nothing to do with the bond I built with you. I promise you that." I told her as I embraced her back.
"Can I interrupt?" Kev asked as he walked in the room.
"You're asking now?" Kiesh said and we both laughed at that, he smiled.
"Good one! But let me borrow my lady for a sec." he said to her.
"Fair enough. Thank you for helping get me ready for tonight sis." she said.
"Any time." I said as I got up and me and Kev went downstairs. "So...how much did you hear?" I asked him.
"All of it. I respect that in you though. She doesn't get too many woman figures other than Ms. Gladys. Thank you for being that for her."      "You don't have to thank me. I know what it's like to not have that figure there. Regardless of whatever may come between me and you, I wouldn't turn my back on her." I told him.             "You not going anywhere, so I don't even know why you talking like that." he said with a laugh as he grabbed me and kissed me.                                     "I mean I don't plan on it, but at the same time, people wake up with different feelings everyday."    "They do, but not me." he said and we just stared in each other's eyes for a moment. "But I can show you better than I can tell you though." he said as he let me go and we walked into the room and he closed the door behind us.
"You okay Love?" I asked him as he began to strip out of his clothes.
"Of course, just getting myself mentally ready for tonight." he said as he walked into the bathroom and got in the shower. I took a seat on the bed and began to roll up so he could free his mind once he got out of there.  I sat that in the ashtray and then got up and turned on some music. We usually sat around and played R&B before stuff to mellow us out. When he came into the room, I was sitting here singing along to Say Yes by Floetry. He continued drying off and started to get dressed when he stopped and stared at me.       "What?" I said as I locked eyes with him.
"You like singing or rapping more?"
"They're same level to me. Why you ask?" I asked him as he sat down.
"It's the way you were singing. Unless you was just serenading me." he said as we both shared a laugh.
"I love that song. I might've just been singing to you." I said as I sparked the L.
"I know you were, I could see it in your eyes." he said as I passed it to him.
"What else do you see?" I asked him.
"I see one of the baddest, sweetest, swift-talking, educated, humble, talented, and blessed women walking God's green earth. I'm blessed enough to call her mine." he said.
"You must want some neck." I said in my Cardi B voice and we both burst into laughter.
"Thanks baby, I feel like the blessed one though. For sure." I said.
"How so?" he asked me.
"I got blessed with the best support system in the world. Not to mention he's hella educated, well-mannered, even-tempered, inspiring, bright, loving, self-aware, self-assured, rapping gentleman on the brink of stardom." I said.             "Mmm, I'm all that, huh?" he said with a smile as he kissed me as the doorbell rang. He went and answered the door and yelled for Kiesh as he walked back in the room. "Cinco is here, so I guess we about to roll out." he said as he put on his shirt and grabbed the keys. I walked out the room with him right behind me. We definitely saw the little romance stirring between Kiesh and Cinco, it was cute, but Cinco knew to tread lightly as well. We all jumped in the truck to head to the venue. Not even gonna lie, when we pulled up, it was a larger turn out than we expected.                 "Damn...here we go!" Cinco said sounding excited to get out here.
"Time to shine baby!" I said to Kev.
"As we always do." He said as we got out and started heading to the door. We had people run up on us immediately.
"Oh my God, can I please get a pic with you two?" This girl asked as Kev immediately put his arm around my waist and pulled me to him as she crouched down in front of us and took the pic. "Thank you so much!" she said.
"You're welcome Love." I said as we got bombarded like that a few more times before making it in. "That's crazy." I said and Kev laughed.
"You'll get used to it." he said as the 4 of us headed up to the stage where Iris and Charles were.
"Told you it was them. Second round of pandemonium." Iris said as we walked up. "They went nuts for the tribe, I knew this was yall next. They been chanting yall names out there." she finished.
"Tonight is about to be lit." Cinco said.
"It sure is, yall ready?" Charles said and we all nodded at that just before he started hooking the mic up on me. I couldn't believe me and Kev were hosting this one and participating. This was gonna be an epic night for sure. Iris started hooking up Kev's mic too. We looked in each other's eyes for a minute. This was the start of something great.
