"You good?" Kev asked me as we were getting ready to leave to head to get fitted. "You just haven't said too much of anything since we got up." "I'm cool, just been thinking is all." I said to him. "Care to share?" he asked me as he grabbed my hand and pulled me to him as he wrapped his arms around me. We looked into each other's eyes. "Or you don't have to if you don't want to." "It's not that. You know I can tell you anything. But...it's like I don't want to really give it my energy for real, that's why I haven't said too much about it." "Yeah but whatever it is, is fucking with your energy though." Damn...he was right. "So...it's like I'm tired of this weird ass energy between me and Toya. Like I respect her as a creator, I get why they utilize her, but it's like the fake conversations and awkward stare or snide remarks I could really do without. I don't wanna de..." I started trying to explain but couldn't. "Baby listen, never let a single soul fuck with your dope ass energy. I get where you're coming from and all that. In my opinion, I think y'all need to just sit down and have a serious conversation about what's what. At least if y'all talk you both can know what's up and it could take the awkwardness out of the situation." he said to me. "I hear you, but I'm not making it awkward though and that's taking effort from me." He grabbed a hold of my hands and looked back up at me. "You're right, it's not stemming from you. However it could be your presence that is messing with her. A lot of times you're a target because you're seen as a threat." "Bae...I hate when you're right." he laughed at me. "...I for real don't care if we not gone be cool in the end, that's fine by me. But I just don't wanna be in this weird space. Like I'm such a cool ass chick and I stay getting prejudged and it's annoying. Like I stand on principles and values and whatnot. I take friendships and relationships seriously. I'm very respectful. I ride through storms with whoever. I can be depended on and I'm solid as hell. So...this I can't understand." "And all of those reasons are why I plan on making you my wife..." he said before he kissed my hand. "...but maybe she needs some grace Love. She might not be used to females like you. Not to make excuses for her, but I was glad my afterthought after meeting you was wrong too. I saw you and instantly was intrigued but I kept thinking that someone as fine as you would be stuck up and not down to earth and I was so wrong. I can admit that, maybe she needs space to do the same." I just had to take those words in for a minute. "Okay." I said as he pressed his lips to my forehead and hugged me. "You good?" he asked me as he rubbed on my arms and I nodded. "Let's roll." he said as he led me outside and into his truck. I loved the fact that all this time had gone by and he still opened the doors for me and everything. I love that about him and I know my dad would've loved it even more. Every time I think about how my dad drilled into my head how a man or a woman is supposed to treat me and how not to settle for less, I get to feeling joy in my spirit because I know he's smiling down. I just wish he was here to witness it. "Babe, what's wrong?" Kev asked me and until he asked, I didn't even realize I had tears coming down my face. "My bad...I was just thinking. Like...my dad had always told me so many times about how not to settle for just anybody. He would go into these tangents about how I'm supposed to be treated and viewed...cared for and I just know he would be so happy that I'm with you. I just wish he got a chance to meet you and whatnot." He grabbed a hold of my hand. "He met me. Maybe not in the physical, but maybe this is what your dad was manifesting." he said and you know what, he just might be right about that. "I'm not gonna lie, initially I thought I was punching above my weight class. Like here you are; you're smart, beautiful, dedicated, rich, and you embody qualities that most women twice your age don't. I'm just a kid from the hood who got the talent to make someone feel what I feel. I didn't have a good upbringing, I probably did more bad than good in my life at least until C came in the picture. D, I ain't gone lie, I did a lot of shit I'm not proud of and if you would've met me when I was the worst version of myself, I don't even know if we'd be here today. But the determination I have to be the best example for my sister and to show her there's a right path to go down exceeds all of that. Then there's you...I want to show you that there's more to life than loss. I want to show you that you are worthy of the unconditional love that you give. I think that's something your exes failed to do. You know prior to us coming in contact, I asked God for a blessing and also for the discernment to not jeopardize the blessing after I received it. And here we are." I looked over at him as we locked eyes for a moment. "So perhaps our prayers are aligned and that's what brought me you." "You must be trying to make me cry again." I said and we both laughed. "As long as they're happy tears, I'm cool with that. But naw it was more so, I think that was probably the most vulnerable moment you ever shared with me, so I just evened the playing field Bae." he said to me and I nodded as I took that in. "But I think you may be wrong though..." he looked confused. "...you said you don't know if we'd be here if I knew you when you were the worst version of yourself. Love, you literally met me at the lowest point of my life and hung in there. I think I could've done the same." I said to him.
