"Man I'm not gonna lie this class is kicking my ass for real. Like I knew the academics weren't gonna be a breeze but goddamn." I said to Suki as we took a seat in one of the common areas on campus. I needed a small mental break at the moment. "What class is it that got you like this?" She asked calmly as she began to massage my temples. "Kinesiology." I told her as I closed my eyes to enjoy this for a moment. "It's a lot of vocabulary and remembering different body parts and functions, right?" she asked me and I nodded. "Okay so maybe we just need to break it down more simply for you. Like break it down to the different areas of the body and then the muscles and shit that are associated with it, that way it won't seem like so much at once." "This is why I love you..." I sang to her as we both laughed. She literally always had a remedy for my sanity. I can't lie it was definitely easier with her by my side. I can't say that I was completely ready for marriage when we took that leap, but I'm glad it was with the right person. "Naw for real though, you're like the Yin to my Yang. You balance me out for real. Like shit be seeming dumb hard until you break it down like that." I told her as I grabbed her hand and kissed it. "You gotta stop looking at things as a whole because you get overwhelmed Baby. Once you break it into parts, it becomes simpler. You just gotta remind yourself that your mind can only take so much. Breathe and break it down." "Mannn I wish I could clone you. I need that type of reassurance and reasoning regularly throughout the day." I told her and I watched the smile creep up on her face. "This is why they have phones Love. You can always call or text me. You know I got you." "For better or worse?" I said and we both laughed. "Exactly!" She said. "Just make sure you got me the same exact way." "You don't ever gotta question. You know I been all in from the gate, even when you thought I was playing about tying the knot." I said to her and she looked over at me. "I still don't think you were completely ready when we took that jump. But you prove to me each and every day that I was wrong. Thank you for that." She said to me. "That never needs a thank you baby. Just know if I said it, then I meant it. I don't ever want you to think for one moment that I say things just because they sound good. I'm not gonna lie, once upon a time I was that guy. But in the process of becoming a man, I realized the error of my ways. I don't want to put you through the things that I went through or what I may have put other females through. You're different. I treat you as such, because in order to have different, you must move differently. I ain't been the same since the day you walked in and I'll continue to be the man in front of you right now. Just stick it out with me, Love." "Til death do us part." she said softly. We had chilled there for a while to relax and take our mind off our courses, but she had a class at 2, I still had to wait til 3:30 for my last class of the day. I watched as she walked away to get to class and then I sat back in the chair. "So...you really got married and shit?" I heard a familiar voice say when I picked my head up and saw Jasmine standing in front of me. "I'm not on no bullshit, I come in peace." she clarified. "Yes, I did get married for real." I reiterated to her. "I didn't know you went here." I said. "Late registration, but I'm here." she replied and I nodded. "Congrats! Y'all look good together. I don't just mean aesthetically either. You look genuinely happy and that's good for you." "Thank you, I appreciate that." I told her and she looked at me awkwardly. "What's wrong?" A part of me didn't want to ask, but we were friends at a point. "I contemplated for a long time about sharing this with you, even played this out in my head several times, but it's different now that I'm right here." "Look, we don't have to rehash it or anything. I apologize for the way I left, it came off very disrespectful and I'm not that dude anymore. Meeting my wife opened my eyes to a lot of things and one of them is the respect that a woman gives upon opening her legs to us. Regardless of what our situation was, I should've never spoken to you like you were a common whore. You didn't deserve that." I admitted to her. She stared at me and I saw as a single tear slid down her cheek that she wiped away quickly. "I don't know if that made this harder or easier. Thank you for that though." she reached into her purse and handed me a piece of paper. I found myself in amazement when I opened it and I had so many questions but I couldn't find the words. "I don't want you to feel like you owed me anything and I also don't want you to hate me for the decision that I made in the end." she said and then it all came full circle in my mind. "I'm sorry. You probably felt like you didn't have another choice and that's on me." "No, I can't blame you. I knew in my mind, finding out I was pregnant was what I had wanted for a while, but it was for all the wrong reasons. I wanted you, not to be a mom and not the baby, I just wanted you. I wouldn't have been any good to him or her and that's why I chose to terminate. But after I went to therapy, I realized you deserved to know either way." I still didn't know what to say at this very moment. "You can keep that one if you'd like." "I would, thank you." I said to her and she nodded. I had pulled her into my embrace and gave her the first legit and sincere hug I'd ever given to her. "Take care Jazz." I said as I kissed her forehead. "You too Jay." she said as she walked off, leaving me to my thoughts.
