Part 5: The Diamond Settlement (Adaman x Reader) CUTE FLUFF

[this chapter is pretty clean. mostly just cute fluff and setting the 'plot' for what'll be happening and why characters are going where they are]

Adaman and I strained to hear outside the shack. The window was blurry enough so that no one outside would be able to see us.

We listened as footsteps drew nearer down the path towards the sandy beach.

It sounded like there were two sets of footsteps. I recognized Rei's voice.

"I know," Rei spoke.

Through the blurry window, I could see that Rei was carrying a torch. This let us see he was with a smaller yellow Pokemon - his Pikachu.

"I should have come here earlier. Y/N always comes to the beach at sunset, and it'd have been my best chance to talk to her alone," Rei huffed.

Adaman's posture straightened. We both remained silent - knowing not to risk Pikachu hearing us.

"I just thought she would still be here..." Rei sighed.

Pikachu gave Rei a comforting hug. Rei petted Pikachu in return.

"We might as well head back," they started walking towards the village.

Once we knew they were out of earshot, I turned to Adaman.

"Does Rei... have fee-"

"No clue," Adaman cut me off before I could finish. He squared his shoulders.

"We should head back before anyone else ends up coming here,"

"Agreed," Adaman spoke - his voice uncharacteristically snippy.

The next morning...

I had just arrived at the Crimson Mirelands.

After the beach last night, Adaman had walked me to my room and kissed me goodnight, behind closed doors of course. He returned to the Diamond Settlement to avoid any suspicion that would arise if he spent a second night in Jubilife Village with no "purpose". We had a short chat about how he understood I needed to keep us a secret from everyone - but as long as the two of us knew how each other felt - it would be enough... for now.

I spent the day examining Pokemon that the Galaxy Team wanted more information about, and also found items lost by Jubilife residents. I took breaks to climb to high peaks to rest and sit with my Pokemon. Typhlosion looked extra concerned - probably sensing I was lost in thought.

I kept thinking about what Rei had said at the beach last night when he thought he was alone. He clearly said my name last night, and was looking for me.

Did he want to confess to me?

There was no way. Maybe he wanted to talk about missions.

After a full day of completing missions and Galaxy Team tasks, I headed over to the Diamond Settlement. Adaman was busy with assigning jobs to his clan members.

He looked so at-home in his authoritativeness and familiarity with his people.

After Adaman finished instructing two of his men to keep watch from the mountains, his eyes finally met mine.

"Ah, Y/N!" He spoke loud enough so that the people nearby all looked over. "Everyone. Y/N will be helping out with our invasive Pokemon issue tonight. She will be observing and helping come up with a plan. We are not to rely on her to deal with battling these Pokemon. I have enough confidence in my clan to be able to hold these Wild Pokemon off while she comes up with a solution," Adaman instructed.
