PART 10: The Festival Proposition (Fluff ~ Short ~ Plot)

[Thank you all for your patience. No explicit naughty behaviour in this chapter. But... some plot-stirring happenings :O Also, a super short chapter to get the idea for the next parts of the book out there!~]

Adaman knew a few Diamond Clan members stood guard around the premises and thought it be best if we return from the hot springs at different times.

The thought of keeping our little "private meetings" a secret made my stomach turn - in a good and bad way. It was exciting, but at the same time, it brought uncertainty.

What if other girls pursue him because he's 'single'?

Right now, it was early morning, and I had just gotten back to Jubilife Village. I was unable to see Adaman before I left. He had Diamond Clan Leader duties to attend to before sunrise. I, on the other hand, was on my way to the main Galaxy building to meet with Cyllene.

I swung open the doors.

I almost bumped into Rei, our noses nearly touching.

He yelped and took a step back.

"Sorry, Rei!" I guiltily scratched the back of my head. "My fault for rushing through the door so quick," I gave an innocent smile.

Rei's face went red for a moment before sputtering, "I-it's not your fault. You didn't know,"

I opened the door for him to walk through. "You were just leaving?" I asked.

"Yeah! No... I was leaving but-"

"Ah, you're staying now that I'm here?" I joked.

An array of emotions flashed across his face.

"I'm joking,"

"No, I... yeah!"

I raised a brow.

"I asked Rei to fetch you," Cyllene's voice boomed from her office. "I don't want to repeat my instructions twice," 

Rei and I exchanged looks before entering Cyllene's office.

Cyllene gave us a rundown of missions to complete within the next few days before the Summer Solstice Festival to be held at Jubilife Village.

"Will we also be working as guards during the festival?" I started mentally planning my route.

"No. The lower ranks can handle a festival,"

After receiving more details about the pre-festival missions, we bowed to Cyllene and took our leave.

Rei and I exited the office just as Commander Kamado reached the bottom of the stairs.

"Ah, Rei, Y/N!" Commander Kamado walked over. "So glad to see the both of you together."

"A pleasure to see you as well, sir," I bowed.

"So has Rei asked you to go to the Summer Solstice Festival with him?"

"Oh, Cyllene said we aren't working that night,"

"Aha, no, Y/N. I meant are you two going together to the festival as a couple?"

If I had a drink in my mouth, I would have spit it out.

"C-Commander!" Rei stammered. "W-we aren't a couple!"

Suddenly, Cyllene stepped into the hallway and joined the conversation, "that would be an exceptional idea,"

My eyes darted between everyone in the room.

I wanted to argue and yell, but thought it a bad idea. "How so?" calmly, I tried not to speak out of turn.

"Think about it, if you and Rei, both highly ranked representatives of the Galaxy Team show face at the festival, as a couple, our department would no doubt gain more support from the growing residents of Jubilife, as well as the Pearl and Diamond Clans,"

The Diamond Clan... Adaman...

"I... would just like to remind both of you that my involvement in any romantic relationships were frowned upon in the past," I spoke.

"That was if you were to choose a member of the two clans," Cyllene reminded me. "If you were to couple up with someone of the Galaxy Team, then it would just strengthen people's beliefs in the bond between people in the Galaxy Team,"

"Or they would think that our time spent doing Galaxy Team missions are for personal romantic purposes," I argued.

Cyllene sighed and looked up at the commander. "Sir, what is your input?"

"The public would admire seeing the both of you as a couple,"

"But we aren't a couple," I quickly stated.

"Not officially. Why don't you both attend the Summer Solstice Festival together on a date?"

Was this really what Rei and I have become - celebrities to entertain the hearts of the public?

"I..."

"Just dress nice and walk side by side," Kamado explained. "It would serve as good publicity for the city, and could bring in more supporters and patrons for the Galaxy Team,"

I wanted to scream.

"We won't say you two are a couple,"

"Because we're not," I stated. I turned to Rei, "Surely it's unfair to you," I furrowed my brows. "To be wrongfully assumed as courting me... do you truly want that?"

Several emotions flashed across Rei's face, unsure of how to respond.

I realized it was unfair of me to put Rei on the spot. He always did what he was told, and this situation was no different. I could never expect him to go against the orders from Cyllene or Kamado.

"Fine," I sighed and headed to the door.

"Don't forget to dress appropriately for the festival!" Kamado called.

What am I going to tell Adaman?

I exited Galaxy Hall.
