act one, chapter three ─ another
struggle within !( spring of nineteen ninety-seven ! )

ONE THING THAT ALVIN MISSED ABOUT CALIFORNIA was the year round sunshine. He hadn't even seen snow until he moved to ohio. It was weird. It was strange to him. And for the winter it pretty much stayed cloudy and icky. And that didn't help his mood any at all. He found himself to be more cranky and depressed when it was snowing outside, but Hallie had explained to him that it seasonal depression. Something that he had never heard of. And he barely even knew what the coldness felt like. And he hated it to say the least. And he never had to use the heat in his car until then. But when the sun did come out, he always thanked Apollo for the sunlight he gave the people. And that even sparked something. Because a lot of people knew he was a witch, but a lot of people didn't like it. They always have him weird stares whenever he walked around or whispered about him.
It was normal though. He had learned to get used to it. People were cruel. His father told him to either suck it up, or cry yourself to sleep every night, and Alvin really did not want to do that. It wasn't healthy. For his mind or his soul. Being strong was the route to go. He always thought that way, it was so much easier than saying "suck it up." He even hated the saying because his father used it so much. Alvin made sure that he didn't hear that saying ever again. And saying it to him pretty much gave him bad deja vu.
Being born into a family of military people and witches wasn't easy. And that was obvious. But the Fowlers managed to fit in. Well, Nymphie did. Alvin stood out like a sore thumb. They totally treated Nymphie differently than him. Everyone sees her as the normal one. While he was considered to be. . . Out of this world. Some sort of space oddity. The male couldn't walk around without someone joking that he might curse them, or do something of that sort. But they had been very wrong about it. It annoyed him, frustrated him even. But he always took every challenge as a positive. "If you face a situation positively, you can face anything." He always said.
The first thing you saw when you walked into Alvin's dorm room was the alter that he displayed. He only had one rule. Don't touch it. It isn't yours to touch, and you certainly shouldn't go messing with things that didn't belong to you. If you followed that rule, you were fine. There were crystals everywhere. His friends knew that he had been totally into that. He took them pretty seriously, too. Salt lamps and other things of that sort.
His room pretty much looked like a jungle with the plants that he had in his room. He had many different plants in there. His room was aesthetically pleasing, other than the fact that he had papers and books on the floor, but that was the only thing that was messy. Everything else looked pretty neat and tidy. He just likes it that way. It made way for positive energy to come through if it was clean around there.
