18: Rejection

"But Chief Benja..."

"I'm sorry Princess Namaari. But I live by protocols. And a relationship between two royalties of the same gender is unacceptable."

Namaari had tears in her eyes and she angrily faced the Chief and said, "You will not tear Raya and I apart, Chief Benja. I don't care what you think of her and I dating. We are in love with each other and there's nothing you can do about that!"

Namaari sounded really hurt and aggressive and Noru along with other nearby guards heard what was going on and inched closer. Chief Benja was surprised at how Namaari addressed him and said, "Excuse me young lady? Who do you think you are talking to?"

"I do not mean any disrespect but I'm in love with Raya. And you won't keep us apart." said Namaari in a calmer tone.

"Namaari, you are jeopardizing your stay in Heart."

"So now you're treating me as how you treated Zou..."

Benja sighed, "I do not want to, Namaari. But you need to learn to treat those who are set over you with respect at all times, regardless of how you feel about something."

"I- I'm sorry..."

"Accepted."

"But what is the reason for this? Love is love."

"Does Chief Virana know of your love for Raya?"

"I haven't told her as yet."

"Well she and I will need to discuss this. You're dismissed from my presence. I may rethink this."

Namaari left back to the infirmary and saw that Raya was awake but looked very exhausted. She went over to her and gave her a gentle hug. "Hey dep la."

"Hey Namaari." replied Raya, returning the hug.

"How are you feeling dep la?" 

"Still shocked about what happened... And I'm in some pain too." replied Raya. Tears began forming in her eyes and Namaari held her close.

"I'm so sorry Raya, if I had just come with you and Vashi..."

"You don't need to apologize to me. It's not your fault."

"I promised to always protect you Raya."

"It doesn't matter Namaari, you are not responsible for what happened to me. I was the fool for letting down my guard and believing that that man actually wanted to apologize to me for how he spoke to me in the meeting." Raya explained.

"You're not at fault either. That does not justify what he did to you. He is 100% responsible dep la."

Raya sighed. When Namaari saw tears streaming from her eyes, she held her close and said, "You're safe now."

Raya didn't reply and just snuggled in her girlfriend's arms. After a while of comfortable silence, Raya said, "I wanna go to my room."

"Okay."

While Namaari helped her up, a healer entered and said, "Hello your majesties, where are you going, Raya?"

"I'm...not very comfortable in here, I'm heading to my room."

"I wish I could let you go, your highness. But we have to keep an eye on you to ensure all is fine." replied the healer.

Raya sighed and sat back down on the bed but then a voice said, "If she is feeling okay enough, she can go to her room where she's comfortable."

Raya turned and saw her father. Namaari avoided eye contact with him and Raya could tell that there was some tension but she was in too much pain to inquire about it. The Chief helped her to her room and Namaari went to Zou and Vashi who were leaning against a wall and talking.
