Chapter 8
"I need to go home now," Jeffany said to Riley. She replied to her mother that she would be home in a few minutes.
"I know, I know," Riley replied. He was standing beside her, dripping wet. He hauled one of the towels resting on a lean-back and dried himself.
"You don't understand," Jeffany said, sounding frustrated. "My mom and dad went out with a friend. They left the door of the house unlocked," she explained to Riley with full of might.
"Okay, I understand. You'll go home," Riley said while picking up a glass of iced tea.
"What?" Jeffany asked, confused.
"I understand that you need to go home. Of course you'll go home," Riley elaborated.
Jeffany clicked her eyebrows, her hands on her waist, and asked, "So, why are you insisting me to stay?"
"What?" Riley asked. "Did I ask you to stay?"
"You're insisting me to go up to the hotel room, right?" Jeffany said matter-of-factly.
"Yeah, I did," Riley said before sipping. "But," he swallowed, "I wasn't insisting you to stay."
"Oh," Jeffany said, her voice fading. "So, why do you insist me to go up the hotel room?"
"Did you bring your clothes?" Riley asked.
"No," she said casually. But, then, she realized. She was wet. Her dress was wet, even her undies. She couldn't go home wearing a towel to dry her during the ride. Even though the Sun was hot, and the cold was nothing to worry about, it was still inconvinient to sit in a public utility vehicle when the hem of your dress was dripping water. "Oh, gosh. I didn't bring them," Jeffany said, stomping her foot on the ground dramatically. This is a major problem.
"Not a problem," Riley said, as if reading her mind again. "I asked you to swim. So, it's my mess. My things will cover my messes up."
Jeffany's eyes narrowed and she cocked an eyebrow. "You mean you're gonna make me borrow your clothes?"
Riley laughed on his stomach, but Jeffany didn't get the joke. Have I said anything funny? He sat at the lean-back and clutched his stomach. His eyes were closed, and his mouth was smiling but opened. There were so much wrinkles on his face you wouldn't know if he was laughing or crying.
"Hey!" Jeffany exclaimed. "We're not playing here."
Riley finished his final laugh, but the smile on his face didn't fade. "Sorry," he said standing up again, holding Jeffany in the arms. "Of course I won't make you borrow my clothes. I brought clothes for you."
Jeffany's eyes widened as she smiled brightly. He pulled Riley's neck in a hug as she rested her chin on his shoulder and whispered, "You're so sweet."
Riley hugged her back, but quickly held her away from him on the waist. He wrinkled his face and cocked an eyebrow, looking at Jeffany sternly. "You're supposed to be home in a few minutes, aren't you?"
"Oh, yes!" Jeffany shrilled, untangling her hands from Riley's neck. She held his hands tight. "Let's go."
Together, they streaked up to the hotel room to change. There was no time to wash so Jeffany decided to do it at home. Riley handed her a white paper bag as she went inside the bathroom. She washed her hair in a quick to get off the chlorine content from the pool, and dried it with a towel. She opened the paper bag and, to her surprise, she found brand new undies lying on a pink dress. She unwrapped the undies and wore them. The panty shorts were fitted on her waist, but the brassiere was a little larger. Finally, she wore the dress as it matched her body perfectly. She wondered how Riley thought of her size very well. Maybe he's a real mind reader after all. But, does mind reading include physical quantities?
