"Leafnose!"

Rosesplash jolted awake, looking around irritably for the cat who interrupted her wonderful dream she had.

In Rosesplash's dream, she was near a large lake at the evening and was relaxing on the shore. The sand was soft and hot beneath her paws, the waves crashed against the shore, again and again. She gazing drowsily at the beautiful lake that glowed in the dim light of the sunset.

This is reality though, Roseplash thought, getting her thoughts away from her dream as she shifted in her nest. Rosesplash was about to go back to sleep as only a bit of sunlight came into the den...

"Leafnose! Somebody help!"

Rosesplash jumped to her paws . Did someone say Leafnose? Rosesplash wondered, as she dashed out of the warriors' den, carefully avoiding the tails of her still sleeping Clanmates that were curled up in their comfy nest.

In the clearing, LeapClan's leader, Eaglestar and LeapClan's deputy, Willowheart was talking to Dustyfoot. Beside Dustyfoot was...a brown and white she-cat, Leafnose!

Leafnose was lying on the ground. She wasn't moving and there was mud and blood on her ragged brown and white fur.

Rosesplash bounded to them and looked accusingly at Dustyfoot. "What happened? Why aren't you doing anything? Get a medicine cat!" She looked around for Blueshadow.

Dustyfoot turned to her and dipped his head slowly. "I'm sorry," Dustyfoot murmured, grief and frustration filled his gaze as he stared back at her blankly. "She's dead. Leafnose, your sister accidentally fell off the cliff." Dustyfoot turned away in sadness.

Rosesplash's eyes widened in shock, letting out a wail and thrusted her nose deep into Leafnose's fur. "Leafnose." Rosesplash whispered. She had always had a close bond with her sister.

"Me and Leafnose were hunting," Dustyfoot explained quietly at Rosesplash's questioning glare. "She was chasing a rabbit and I was looking in the other direction, scenting for prey. I heard her yowl in shock and I turned around to see her fall from the cliff. I had to climb down and up carefully to get her." Dustyfoot nodded to his now dusty and muddy pelt.

Rosesplash eyed him suspiciously. "It's your fault!" Rosesplash exclaimed, baring her teeth in a snarl. "If you had just-"

Eaglestar stepped forward, blocking Rosesplash from getting too close to Dustyfoot. "It was just an accident," Eaglestar interrupted, gazing at Rosesplash with sympathy. "You must accept that. I know you're grieving and we are too, but Leafnose will be safe in StarClan."

Rosesplash faced her leader. "She was safe here," Rosesplash hissed, her green eyes blazing, but then sighed. She would be safer in StarClan. No fighting, no harsh leaf-bares or anything bad.

"Living in a Clan has harsh requirements," Willowheart answered carefully, her blue eyes flashing briefly with thought. "Every cat has a destiny, I wonder why StarClan chose this path for her." With a respectful nod to Rosesplash, she headed toward the medicine cat's den to call Blueshadow.

Dustyfoot dipped his head. "I know what you're feeling," Dustyfoot insisted to Rosesplash. "I'm her mate."

Rosesplash was shocked. Leafnose never told her that she had a mate and Rosesplash never thought Leafnose would be close to as cat like Dustyfoot.

"I know what you're thinking," Dustyfoot went on when Rosesplash didn't speak. "We should've announced that we were mates, but it was Leafnose who asked to keep it a secret."

Rosesplash trembled slightly. "Leafnose and I were close," Rosesplash growled, stepping forward. "So why didn't she tell me at least?"

Dustyfoot shrugged and shook his head sadly. Before he could say anything, more cats came from their dens, looking confused and startled at Leafnose's body.
