Leafpaw sniffed Maplepaw's unconscious body. The attack happened around a moon ago and he still wasn't conscious and his wounds weren't getting too better.

She was in the medicine cats' den. She hated the herby scent of everything, but she stayed to keep an eye on Maplepaw to make sure he doesn't wake up without her knowing.

"I'm sorry," Blueshadow murmured, coming over to her. "I've tried every herb I could think of to try to fix Maplepaw. I'll ask the other medicine cats tonight."

"I know you're doing your best," Leafpaw replied softly, gazing at Blueshadow with sadness.

Featherpaw came in and dropped a bundle of herbs she was carrying. "I found these herbs," Featherpaw meowed. "Not very much though. I only found marigold and tansy."

"Marigold and tansy are always very welcome," Blueshadow answered, picking up the herbs and padding to the herb store. "It's almost leaf-bare. We need all the herbs since we used most of them on Maplepaw."

Featherpaw shot an apologetic glance at Leafpaw as a growl rumbled in Leafpaw's throat. "He doesn't mean that we shouldn't have used them on Maplepaw," Featherpaw explained quickly. "Right, Blueshadow?"

"Right," Blueshadow murmured then he lifted his head. "I'm going to the Moonpool now. Featherpaw, is it okay if you stay here with Maplepaw? If he gets any worse, get some cat to fetch me back."

Featherpaw shrugged. "I'm okay staying," Featherpaw replied. "Can you say hello to Redpaw for me?"

"Sure," Blueshadow meowed before heading out of the den.

"Are you going to get your full name soon?" Leafpaw asked Featherpaw.

"Blueshadow says I'm ready but loads of things are going on right now," Featherpaw murmured, peeling off a layer of cobweb. "I don't care if I become a full medicine cat late. I just want to help cats."

"You'll become a great medicine cat, Featherpaw," Leafpaw purred, admiring how kind and thoughtful she was.

Featherpaw blinked at her in surprise. "I'll try," Featherpaw promised softly, then sniffed at his wounds. "They're still red and infected. They're not gonna get better anytime soon."

"Is he getting worse?" Leafpaw asked immediately, her eyes wide with nervousness.

Featherpaw paused, sniffing Maplepaw. "Unfortunately yes," Featherpaw muttered, then started chewing marigold. "We don't need Blueshadow yet. I can try."

Leafpaw's ears twitched. "Are you sure?"

"I'm sure," Featherpaw confirmed, starting to spread the marigold on Maplepaw's wound and fixing it with cobwebs. "Do you trust me, Leafpaw?"

"Of course I do, Featherpaw," Leafpaw agreed. "But no offence, but I think Blueshadow is better. He has more experience than you."

Featherpaw's eyes glittered for a moment with anger then she turned away. "I understand," Featherpaw murmured. "You should get some sleep, Leafpaw."

"Leaf...paw?"

Leafpaw whipped her head and saw that Maplepaw's eyes were opened. Maplepaw looked up at her, looking agitated.

"Maplepaw!" Leafpaw exclaimed, touching his fur with her nose.

"Keep still," Featherpaw warned as Maplepaw shifted slightly in his nest. "You don't want to reopen your wounds and besides they're very bad."

"Can you tell me who attacked you?" Leafpaw begged, crouching beside Maplepaw.

Maplepaw's eyes flashed with pain. "I-I don't know, Leafpaw," Maplepaw meowed, his voice shaking. "I only saw a flash of ginger fur and then pain enveloped me."
