Today you were staying at the barn while the gems were out running errands.

Pearl didn't trust you being on your own, and even with Steven's insistence, she didn't think lion would be a suitable gemling-sitter for you. Something about, 'needing to be predictable and clear to understand'. And with Greg being busy with work and Connie being busy with studying, the next best option was to let you stay at the barn with Peridot and Lapis.

Of course after a 20 minute lecture from pearl about gemling care and corrupt gem management, and a lengthy goodbye from Steven, the gems went on their way, leaving you to the care of Lapis and Peridot.

Things went rather smoothly, as Peridot watched you like a hawk, observating with you from nearly any and every angle and recording your every action and interaction with the environment around you into her voice recorder. Lapis was more laid-back in her methods, as she would either read or watch TV while occasionally stealing glances of you every few minutes, to ensure you were okay and use a bit of her hydrokinesis to dislodge you from places you'd become stuck in.

You'd occasionally get scritches and belly rubs from the two, but you mostly played with pumpkin, frolicking amongst the crop fields, wrestling, giving piggyback rides and playing tag or hide and seek. At some point during a particularly intense game of tag, you weren't paying attention and tripped and fell into a mud patch, getting your arms, legs and belly covered in muck.

"Gah! What happened!?" Peridot sprung out of her hiding spot behind a patch of brush, and rushed over to you, picking you up by the scruff and sneered in disgust at the dark substance smeared all over you. "Nyeeh... I should've known letting you run around such a dirty environment was a bad idea."

You didn't comprehend her indignance, and instead squeaked happily, your tail wagging in elation at the attention from her nonetheless. She stared at your face for a period of time before huffing to herself, stifling a smirk at your unwitting joy.

"Well... at least you appear unaffected by the filth."

"Lazuli!"

Lapis inwardly rolled her eyes at hearing Peridot's somewhat frantic call to her and took her eyes off her magazine to find the green gem running to her with pumpkin trailing at her heels. "The corruptling got herself covered in earth gunk!" She exclaims, holding you up into view. You squeaked, waving a muddy paw at the blue gem, who lifted a brow at the mud covering your body. Though disgusted, she didn't seem entirely fazed. "Ew."

"Quickly! We must wash it off immediately, or else we'll never hear the end of it from the pearl!"

Lapis winced at the idea of hearing pearl rant about the importance of "gemling cleanliness" and sighed, getting up from her lawn chair. "I'll get the tub."

You watched curiously as Lapis brought out the metal tub garnet had inexplicably acquired, and filled it with water from the makeshift pond just outside the barn. "Okay, come here, you."

"Uck! What was I thinking?? Why does earth have so many disgusting substances laying around?!" Peridot rants as Lapis picks you up and prepares you place you into the tub. "I swear, if it wasn't for the Steven or Camp Pining Hearts, this planet would be-"

She was cut of by a stifled snort. "Psst, Peridot. Look."

"Hm?"

Peridot didn't know what to make of the odd motions.

You know when you hold a dog over water and they instictively start paddling mid-air?

That concept applies to corrupt gemlings as well! :D

...I'm not quite good at animating paddling yet.

...and I think I'm starting to get used to Peridot's hair.
