Hey Jessica,
Thank you for your quick response. I understand that it can be a little hard to keep up with everything in this day and age, but we're glad that you're staying on top with it. Anyways, if you're interested, we could do this Saturday at 12 if you're interested. How does that sound?
Sincerely,Jay Martel
I still remember that fateful day. My mother was taking me into the city to see the guy. Boy was I excited!
"Now, Jessica, he sounds like a pretty prestigious person. You're going to have to dress really nicely, and make sure that your hair is brushed all the way."
"Okay, what do you want me to wear?" I asked Mom."You have a really cute little black dress that might work," she said. "You know what they say in fashion: Little black dresses are always in fashion! And of course, you'll want a little scarf for modesty."
"Okay, thanks," I shrugged. After getting into my outfit and putting on a little makeup, I immediately called up the guy involved to tell him how it went.
"Hey, Jay?" I asked.
"Oh hi, Jessica! Didn't expect to hear your voice on the phone!" he eagerly responded with.
"How did you remember my name?" I asked.
"The email, duh!" he said. "Anyways, you excited?"
"Yeah, I am, but I'm honestly a little nervous as well," I said. "You sound really important!"
"Yeah, I get that a lot," he said. "Look, if it's a little too nerve-wracking for you, that's okay. Just be yourself, and don't be too extravagant. Heck, you could wear a T-shirt and jeans if you want."
"Okay, cool," I said.So he was really okay with me being more than a little casual? All that hard work for nothing! It was at that point I got out of my clothes and put on some jeans and a T-shirt.
When we arrived, Jay was there to greet me.
"Hey, how're you doing?" he asked, hugging me dearly.
"Oh, hi, Jay," I said kind of nervously.
"I heard you were on board with helping us create a Manimal movie," he said. "So I thought a little in-person one-on-one would be a good thing for us to do."
"I know right?" I said. "In 10 years, in-person communication would become obsolete and the only way we'd be able to talk to each other is online."
"Very funny," he said, pulling out a notepad. "Anyways, I'm glad you're on board to help, but we'll have to go through a little process before we can get you on board. You okay with that?"
"We can talk about that while we eat," I said. "I'm feeling pretty hungry right now."
"Okay, great!" he said. "So Jess, what was your main motivation for writing a Manimal spec script anyways?" he asked at the restaurant.
"Well, there are a lot of reasons," I told him. "But, we can save tons of time and say that, well, I'm an Honorary Gen-Xer. 80's kids grew up with the coolest shows!"
"Oh, how cool is that!" said Jay."Yeah, one of my favorite episodes of the show is when Manimal and his daughter fight Jack the Ripper!" I immediately pulled out my phone so that we could watch the episode together. He leaned in eagerly to see what was going on.
"One thing I like about this episode is that it was more honest with the show's supernatural origins. Unlike the original series which was more a magical realism- nothing happened on the show that couldn't happen in real life - here there are more supernatural elements. Here we have time travel and Jack the Ripper!"
"Oh cool," he said, leaning over my shoulder to watch. I had forgotten how impractical it was to watch Youtube on a screen that small.
