Chapter 8 Falling Off A Skyscraper

There was a steep grey staircase leading upstairs. I gulped and held onto the metal railing. Geez, they didn't bother making this fire exit look nice. The floor was cement and so were the stairs. The dark green paint on the railing was peeling off showing the rusty metal beneath it.

I started to make my way up the stairs. Damn, I should've chosen something that weren't heels. Climbing stairs with heels isn't the best idea. Every step I took made me more nervous. My palms started to get sweaty, but I still held onto the railing.

Finally, after climbing what felt like a thousand steps, I reached a fire exit door that led to the roof. I took a deep breath, as my shaking hands found strength and pushed the door open slowly. I was slapped right in the face by the strong wind.

The strong wind twirled around me. I could've sworn, if I wasn't holding onto the door, it would've lifted me off my feet. I slowly let go, trying to gain my balance, and made my way out to the roof. I squinted my eyes so that the wind couldn't blow into my eyes.

I slowly took a few steps away from the doorway, but the wind seemed like it kept trying to push me back in. My red hair flew around wildly, whipping me in the face, but I still continued. I managed to get a few steps farther away the doorway and stopped at my tracks immediately.

My whole body froze at the sight before me. Fear overwhelmed me, as my breath got caught in my throat. The wind still blew fiercely around me, but it couldn't move me in any way. Both my heels were planted firmly on the floor.

I gulped. No wonder it was called 'the roof'. There was no railing of any kind preventing you from falling. It was just a wide open area high up in the sky. The view was stunning, but sadly I was afraid of heights, so I couldn't enjoy the view at that moment.

Thankfully, the wind wasn't too hot and wasn't too cold, it was just right. Dark clouds drifted in the dark sky. How long did it take me to get up here? An hour? Two hours? Standing on the roof of this skyscraper, you could see most of Bangkok city from up here.

The sun was crawling down the horizon line disappearing from the sky. The sky was an odd shade of peachy pink and tangy orange. It also had a mix of purple in there. It was the most stunning view I had ever seen in my whole life.

I tucked my red hair behind my ear and forced myself to calm down. I was up here for a reason. Not just to shit my pants because I was afraid of heights and enjoy the view. I was here to find Zayn. I looked around trying to find him.

My eyes traveled around the roof area, and landed on a dark figure sitting on the edge of the building. And by the edge, I'm not joking. His legs were hanging off the building while he stared at the sunset. I felt my hands starting to shake.

I felt like turning back and running back into the building, but I couldn't. I had to make him feel better and comfort him. I took a deep breath and slowly made my way over to him with my shaky long legs. I stopped when I was a few steps behind him.

"Zayn!" I shouted at him.

He turned around to look at me. He cocked an eyebrow, giving me a questioning look.

"Are you crazy?! Sitting on the edge of a-"

He cut me off. "What? I can't hear you!" he yelled back.

Shouting over the howling of the wind around us was incredibly hard. I moved a little closer and repeated myself.

"Are you crazy?! Sitting on the edge of a skyscraper like that!"
