Haven's POV

I wake up for another wonderful day of playing at the Creek...until I remember one important thing.

Last night:

"Haven, tomorrow morning, we'll be out the house until dinner," my mom says.

"We'll still make it home in time for dinner though, so there's no need to stop by Craig's house until we pick you up like usual," my dad adds.

"Where do you need to go so early in the day?"

"We need to pick up some things at our jobs we sort of forgot a while ago and it'll take a while to get it finished," he admits.

"So when you wake up, the very first thing you need to do is look after Holden until we come back," she says.

"Aw man. Do I have to?" I groan. Looking after him wasn't exactly the most exciting thing to do.

"Yep. It's part of the fundamentals of being a family," dad jokes.

Well, Haven, that's a day at the Creek wasted. Unless...

"...then, if being part of a family is fundamental, can I look after him at the Creek instead?" I smile widely with a pleading expression.

My parents exchange looks.

"Oh come on! It's one of the greatest and safest places on Earth! Nothing bad ever happens," I exaggerate. "Look at me," I turn around. "Not a bump, bruise, or scratch on me. So, what do ya say?"

Dad shrugs at mom.

"I don't see why not. What do you think?"

She sighs. "As long as you two get home safely and I don't get one negative motherly sense."

"A motherly what now?" I tilt my head.

"Trust me. Mama always knows," she says with an intense voice.

I tap my feet in excitement and rush to hug both of them. "Thank you, thank you, thank you! You won't regret this at all!"

Present Day:

Now that I think about it, this is the first time I'm taking Holden to the Creek and the first time my friends are also meeting him. This is gonna be awesome!

And then check Holden's room to see if he's awake yet. To my surprise, he's not in his bed. His toys scattered across the floor as usual and a shirt that I think might need to go in the laundry hangs from his bed.

I walk downstairs and see the TV on. The closer I get, the more I see his small, curly hairdo from above. I peek at the TV then back at him. I wait until a commercial break happens. Luckily, I've seen this show multiple times usually against my will, and know when commercials happen. And I think there's going to be one right abouttt...now! I long jump in front of the TV.
