They'd arrived at the house party. Emerald stepped out in front of the beach front villa. It was so spacious and luxurious. Her and some coworkers had planned to stay at the villa for the week; it was a couple's retreat so Lance was her date.
Lance stood beside her and closed her door for her then grabbed her hand. They wore white from head to toe. Emerald thought all white parties where corny but today she wasn't complaining. This place looked breathtaking.
"Damn, this place looks dope." Lance said as they now walked towards the villa. There was couples left and right. White bikinis, shots, cocktails and exotic foods. Emerald looked around observing everyone, they were sipping on something and eating whilst they mingled.
"Looks like they settle already." Emerald nudged Lance then they went to greet the hosts who got chauffeurs to handle their luggage.
The party began. Couples danced and some sat aside and devoured more alcohol. Lance took Emerald's hand and twirled her around before bringing her close.
Her hands were snaked around his neck as they swayed side to side. She rested her head on his chest as she felt the music thumping through the speakers. She felt so safe around Lance; like she didn't need to look anywhere else.
"You know anyone here?" Lance questioned.
"Mi know everyone, Lance. Mel is on the way as well."
"Oh, I'm sorry. Forgot you were a famous socialite."Lance teased then chuckled. "Just didn't really see you talk to much people."
"Meh. Just wanna take mi time and be wid yuh. I see these people all the time." Emerald admitted as she kept her head resting on his broad chest. The thumping of the music and his heartbeat somehow soothed her.
"Man, you're such a sweet girl. Sassy at times but the sweetness in you sure does make up for it." Lance said.
"Oh, is that right?" Emerald was now laughing. She rose her head to look at him then placed a palm on his cheek. She caressed it softly. Gosh, they meant the world to each other.
"Emerald, I want you to-"
Before he could finish his sentence he was interrupted by the DJ.
"Ladies an gentleman, welcome to di party, couples retreat edition!" He announced and everyone clapped and cheered.
"Mi wan fi call all mi ladies up to di stage. Come show yuh moves, prizes to be won from hosts!" He announced. The hosts of the party were Barbados' youngest yet most successful entrepreneurs. Emerald wasn't moved by that sort of stuff; but it's not every party where you win 'prizes' just to dance. She was definitely in.
She parted ways with Lance then headed to the middle. Lance already began cheering her on, making her roll her eyes in embarrassment.
Music began to play and the ladies moved. At first she was lightly moving her hips, until she saw this really was competition. Standing in front of crowds, she wasn't going to lose, she couldn't let that happen. Emerald began moving her body in ways she hadn't in years. She tic-toc, did splits, whined like there was no tomorrow. She stole the whole entire show, the crowd and the DJ was shocked.
In the midst of it all, she'd lost Lance and couldn't see him through the crowd. She'd won the first round and now it was time for the last one. She was tired, but Emerald wasn't a quitter.
"Fi di next round ladies, you will be assigned a dance partner. Let's spice it up!" He announced.
They knew what they were doing by 'spicing it up'. Every woman had been assigned a male partner, one that wasn't their boyfriend. Emerald kept looking searching for Lance, but couldn't see him anywhere. She was beginning to feel uncomfortable.
She felt a nudge on her shoulder and turned around with a smile of relief, she thought it was her love. To her surprise, her eyes are met with familiar ones. A particular person she didn't want to see. Nathan.
He wore a white vest, exposing his abs and beach board shorts. Nathan had a smug smirk on his face. "Been assigned to ya Em. Mi yuh partner." He said then took her hand.
"No!" She yelled loudly, capturing the attention of the other people. "What yuh doin ere? Who invited yuh, yuh dun ave nobody! Its a couple ting ere." She said in annoyance and anger. She didn't want to see him right now, he reminded her of her past with no Lance. She hated it.
"Oh mi have someone dear. Got next girlfriend right after mi left yuh place." He said. Everyone was now listening into their conversation. They gasped and whispers where now being exchanged. Bajan people lived for drama.
"W-what?" Emerald asked, her voice cracking slightly. She was now confused and not sure what she was feeling. Was he going behind her back as well? That's not the Nathan she knew. She thought he was all about her.
Emerald looked down, not knowing what to do as she felt embarrassment and shame. He had made a complete fool out of her. Right in front of everybody she knew. She looked around till she finally saw him. She escaped the crowd and went to her love.
"Lance.." She softly called out to him.
He took her hand and pulled her close then tugged a strand of hair behind her ear.
"What's up with you?" He asked, seeing the sudden change in her demeanour.
"My ex is here."
This was just great. One week on this big villa with her ex boyfriend and current boyfriend. What could go wrong?
