"Rise and shine." Lance pulled back the curtains, the piercing sun hitting Emerald's face. She opened her eyes slowly, rubbing them as her vision adjusted to the light. "My god.. what time?" She asked as she got up and stretched.
"It's 10am sleepyhead." Lance teased as he threw skinny jeans and an american T-shirt at her. "Go change." He stated. He threw his matching American hat beside her too.
She took the shirt and examined it, same with the jeans, They were ripped jeans, the ones she'd been making a mental note to cop this summer. "Omygosh! Mi love these. For me?"
She wondered when he'd got these for her. He continued to surprise her each time they hung out. It was a shame there was an ending to their fun times now.
"I woke up mad early. Like 7am. I figured you had nothing to wear. Last thing we need is you showing up to mumma's house in that dress you had on last night." Lance said, watching her blush which made him smirk in amusement.
"You looked good. I'm just teasing, you know that."
She got up and went to the shower. Lance was already ready to go, cleaned up, bags packed.
Reality hit her in the shower that, this was real life. He was really leaving. She'd met the boy of her dreams. One who understands, who cares about what she has to say, what she has to offer. I mean, he was going to meet his mother for crying out loud. None of her previous boyfriends ever did that.
She wanted to cried. So she did. She cried as the warm water poured down on her face. Lance was on the other side when he head sobbing. He frowned because he knew why. He was just as sad. If only things could've been different.
He rose his hand and made a fist, ready to knock on the door but he froze and decided against it. He sighed and went to his room and continued to get his bags.
Emerald finished freshening up and changed into the outfit Lance gave her. She looked into the mirror and smiled. Perfect fit and everything, yet she'd never told him her size. Amazing.
Lance saw it as a small gesture but to Emerald it meant the world. She was never going to lose this outfit. It meant a lot to her and she appreciated it.
"Emerald. Hurry." It was now almost 12 noon and they hadn't even made their way.
Emerald came out and Lance looked at her up and down "Perfect fit." he said as she turned around. She now had something to remember Lance by.
"Thank you Lance, thanks a lot I appreciate it."
Lance shrugged. "It's nothing." Because to him it really wasn't, this was just a basic outfit. She deserved the world. He would do anything for her.
"You eating?"
"Nah."
"Why"
"Waiting fi reach home."
He nodded and took her hand.
"You know.. I'm surprised we didn't do anything yesterday," He said as he held her waist.
He furrowed her brows. "What, is that wha yuh been hoping fa?" she said, a pinch of annoyance lacing her tone. She pushed him away.
"No no, not at all. Chill. I'm just saying.. like we slept together but didn't do anything, that's a bit unusual for most couples. But not us, stop trippin." He grabbed her arm again and pulled her back into his embrace.
She pecked his lips. "Yuh wan this nutecey?" She said as she looked into his eyes.
He tilted his head, not understanding the foreign word. He didn't know Bajan dialect at all.
"Pussy." She said.
"Well-" She cut him off.
"Well you have to work harder for it. I don't give in easy."
Lance sighed and laughed as he went to grab his bags. Emerald was a tough nut to crack, which is why he loved her. But he would've loved to have a piece before leaving; either way he was just glad their on good terms anyway.
"Let's go to yours now. Leave the bags I'll get those sorted someone's coming to get them."
Emerald nodded and took his hand. She was nervous. She'd never brought a boy home before.
After a 10 minute drive they reached her house. She sighed and looked over at him in the passenger seat. "I'm shy, and nervous."
"Don't be. She'll love me." Lance encouraged her to step out and come with him.
Hand in hand they walked to her front door step. She knocked on the door, twice and loudly.
Moments later keys were rattling on the other side. She could feel her heart thumping on her chest.
"Fuck." She cursed out, not sure how her mum would react.
"Emerald, you had-" Her mum stopped when her eyes met Emerald's, then Lance. She stopped mid-sentence as she observed the sight before her.
"Ma.. this is Lance." was all she said. She didn't know what else to say, this hadn't been thought through or planned.
"Huh?!" Her mum said as she leaned closer because she must've heard her wrong.
"Lance.. Mi frie- my boyfriend." She said as she gestured to him.
Lance smiled at her mum, he now knew where she'd got all the beauty from. "Nice to meet you ma'am. I'm Lance Brown."
He took his hand out for her to shake. She didn't offer hers back. Instead she looked back at her daughter.
"Was goin on gyal?" She didn't know what was happening. After instructing her daughter not to hang around this man, she shows up with him a day later on her doorstep.
Emerald realised she had to stand her ground and be firm. If her mum loved and respected her the same way she does; she'd accept and understand.
"Ma.. mi love yuh bad. Mi respect yuh, care bout yuh enuh. But.. but I'm free to make my own decisions. Date who mi fi wan. This guy right ere, he amazing. When have I ever bought ah man home? Just give us a chance! Yuh know I'd never bring a wasteman to your doorstep."
Emerald's mum laughed at the last line. It was true, she knew her daughter knew better.
She sighed and closed her eyes for a moment. This was a hard pill to swallow. Her daughter was growing up. Dating, relationships and boyfriends were apart of the stage she was in.
"Come in you two." She calmly responded as she opened the door wider for them and headed to the kitchen. They both smiled and a weight was lifted off of her shoulders
"Told you she'd like me." Lance nudged her shoulder and she rolled her eyes.
