The following morning Lance was awoken by the ringing of his iPhone. He groaned in annoyance wondering who could possibly be calling at this time. Rubbing his eyes and stretching quickly, he quickly grabbed his phone and answered."Hello?" He answered his voice low and raspy due to his tired state.
"Lance, how are you?! I've been trying to call you all day but your phone wasn't going through." He quickly sat up at the sound of his mother's voice on the other line, a wide smile came on his features. Oh how he missed her.
"Sorry, ma. The time's different here I was sleeping but how are things going for you there?" He asked as he stood up and began headed for the kitchen.
"We good on this end, you liking the Caribbean? How are the girls there, I hope you're not getting yourself into no trouble hmm..." He could immediately sense her tone and he chuckled as he shook his head. His mother knew how Lance was, he liked to have fun here and there, their bond was tight like that.
"The women here are beautiful.." He simply said as he began making himself breakfast, his shoulder pressing his phone to his ear.
"Oh yeah? What do you like about them, I heard they do this bruk down whining thing, tell me about that." His mother had been obsessed with Caribbean culture, to an extent where it amused Lance.
"Yeah, haven't seen the whole whining going down but.. there's this one girl.." Lance trailed off to his thoughts about the familiar girl.
"Ohhhh yes that's my boy! Bring me back a daughter in law..I need me some gran kids back here." His mother playfully joked and Lance was really now beginning to wish she was by his side; she would love Emerald.
His mother always pressured Lance when it came to girls, constantly setting him up with women in attempts for him to connect with a potential soulmate. However, Lance was never one to force interaction nor commit to anything he didn't find serious. He never chased, the women pursued him; so for Lance to mention one particular girl and not a few, it amazed her.
"It ain't even like that moms, we cooling.. Just friends at the moment."
"Yeah yeah, that's how it all starts. Honey, call me back in a few hours and let's talk more often these next few days. We all miss you." His mother said as she sighed finishing her sentence. She wished she could be in his position, taking a break from reality and relaxing but there was just too much to do in the family business.
"Aight, I gotchu. Tell Jason and Dad I said wassup." He took a sip of his tea before they exchanged goodbyes and he resumed to his breakfast.
Although he missed them he knew he needed to take a break from them. Not to say Lance didn't love them; never that, his love for his family was indescribable. But he wasn't happy. Lance didn't willingly chose to be in the business, his parents never gave him an opportunity to did what he truly desired. He'd never truly known what he wanted to do anyway, due to his parents constantly reinforcing their expectations of him at a young age.
He didn't ask for all the riches, the butlers, the expensive get togethers with associates he didn't care for. He didn't ask for luxurious brands, and as for the women.. they were a bonus but he knew they only wanted a taste of what he had. At times he'd sit down and wonder why he wasn't happy. Those unfortunate could only dream to be in his position but yet, even being bread-fed all the riches without him having to try; it didn't mean anything to Lance.
At times he was convinced he just needed a companion to share it all with, and each time he let someone in they'd disappoint him when they let all the materialistic goods get to their head.
