Hey everyone! I absolutely love Avatar: The Last Airbender and I would've loved to see more Zutara moments in the show, so I decided to write a fanfiction on my own! Hope you enjoy. :) I don't own Avatar!

It's been a year since the defeat of my father, Ozai. Being fire lord is an interesting experience. Many people thank me for my duty to them, but others look down upon me for hurting people before I joined Aang to help defeat the last of the dynasty that would harness the power of fire for their own good.

Every so often, I'll go on a few adventures with Aang and the rest of the group. We help other cities recover from the invasion and sometimes, we even go on fun trips.

This time, we visited Omashu.

"Hey Zuko!" called Aang. "Come with me! I want to show you something."

I followed Aang to a cart on the delivery system.

"Jump in!" he said, as I got into the cart.

All of a sudden, the cart rushed down the delivery system extremely fast, as I gripped hard onto the sides of the cart. It was terrifying yet fun at the same time. When we reached the bottom, Aang and I shared a laugh and got off. Moments later, Sokka and Toph came sliding down after us.

"That...was.....AWESOME!" shouted Sokka. "Let's do that again!"

Aang and Toph agreed and headed back up to the top of the delivery system.

"You should come, too, Katara!" called Toph, as she ran to catch up with Sokka and Aang, who were already heading back to the top.

"Uh, no thanks guys! You can go ahead without me," said Katara. "I'm going to get some food for dinner."

She headed off to the market, and I followed her.

"So, Zuko," she said, picking up some vegetables, "how is your Fire Lord job going?"

"It's going well, thanks for asking."

"And you and Mai? How are you guys?"

I hesitated for a second. Ever since we got back together, I had always acted like I was madly in love with her but I was not sure I really was. I felt that it was time for me to let someone know.

"Katara, can I trust you with a secret?" I asked.

"Of course," she said, as she paid for the vegetables.

We walked down the street to where Aang, Sokka, and Toph were going to land from the delivery system.

"Katara, what do I do? Mai is great, she's unlike anyone else, but I feel like she isn't the girl for me anymore."

She sighed, and patted my shoulder. "Sometimes these things happen, Zuko. Maybe you should give it some time, and if things don't get better, maybe it's time you tell her the truth."

It wasn't as easy as telling her the truth though. How was I to tell Mai that I didn't love her anymore when she's been so nice to me? But the worst part was that it wasn't just that I wasn't in love with Mai anymore, but I was in love with another girl. And that other girl was...Katara.

Katara's hair blew in the wind as Aang, Sokka, and Toph came back down. They all laughed and started heading to Bumi's palance.

"You coming, Zuko?" asked Katara.

"Yeah, I'm coming," I said, catching up to them.

At Bumi's palace, Katara went to help make some dinner. Aang and Toph were outside practicing earthbending, and I was left with Sokka, who was playing around with Momo.

"Um, Sokka, can I ask you something?" I asked.

"Sure, Zuko. What's up?" he said.

Momo sat on his shoulder and poked him. "MOMO!!!" he exclaimed angrily.

I laughed and Sokka pushed Momo off of his shoulder. "Anyways, you were saying, Zuko?"

"Right. What do you do when you are with a girl, but you aren't sure you like her anymore? And what if maybe...that's because...you might like another girl?"

"WHAT?!??! YOU DON'T LIKE MAI??" he exclaimed, surprised. "But why?"

"I mean, she's a great girl, not doubting that. But...There's this other girl that I like and well...I don't know what to do."

"Well, I think you should tell this other girl how you feel," said Sokka. "I don't think you'll have a problem with her liking you back. Good luck."

Momo squealed to Sokka from the corner, and Sokka left, chasing Momo out the door. I went outside, and Toph was by herself, practicing metalbending.

"Hey, Toph," I said, walking up to her.

"What do YOU want?" she asked.

"Can I you give me some advice?" I asked.

"I'll try. Sup?"

"Well, there's this girl I like and well, I like her a lot, but I'm still with Mai. What do I do?"

"Well.....You could always....You know, I don't know. You're in a pretty tough situation. Ask Aang. I need to get back to my metalbending."

I sighed and walked over to Aang, who was on the air scooter, playing around Appa.

"Aang! Aang! I need your help!" I shouted out to Aang.

"Oh hi Zuko! What's up?" he said, getting off his air scooter.

"I need advice on a girl. Mai is a great girl, but there's this other girl I love and I don't know what to do."

"Well, if I were you, I'd tell this new girl that I like her a lot, and then I would talk to Mai. You should do that," he said, smiling. "Just don't hurt Mai!"

"Okay, thanks Aang," I said, showing respect.

I sighed and made my decision. I knew that when asking all of my friends for advice, I couldn't mention that it was Katara that I loved. She was with Aang, and I had to respect that. I realized that I should tell her how I feel. But I wasn't so sure I wanted to tell it to her face to face.

Later that evening, I wrote a note and left it on Katara's bed. I took my stuff and made my way to the exit gates. I was too afraid to confront her about this. What if she didn't like me back? If she didn't like me back, then this might as well remain a stage in my life that will simply pass.
