It had been a week since we broke out of there. Fox and her group got lucky- they found a whole supply of food and another stream on the other side of the forest, and we had since made a trail so that we could get there and back to the camp without getting lost.
"Hey guys! I found a few squirrels," called Cameron as he took his human form again. He had walked into camp only second before as a cat, with three squirrels hanging from his mouth. Now, the squirrels were being hung over a small fire in the center of our makeshift camp.
I was proud of our accomplishments; we had only been gone a week and we had already found a camp, ample food, and fresh water. If we kept this up, we'd be able to go on living here for weeks, maybe months.
"Great!" I replied with a nod of my head. I, myself, had returned to camp only minutes before from a food search with Fox.
The rule with searches and scouts is that two people had to stay in camp at all times. Since there were seven of us, Fox and I took this food search, and I guess Cameron, Sara, and Ferris took the other, leaving Mia and Tyler at camp.
The two had formed some sort of friendship over the past week. I thought that was good; the more bonding we could do with each other, the better.
Tyler took the squirrels from Cameron and skinned them, then put them on the fire.
"Jett?" I felt a tugging on my pants leg and looked down to see wide-eyed Sara.
"Hey, kid. What's up?" I smiled at the little girl.
"Are we staying here forever?" The petite blonde child asked, her eyes seeming to grow even wider at the thought.
I squatted down so that I could look her in the eye. "I don't know, kid. But we're gonna stay here for a while. Is that okay?"
"Yeah," said Sara with a grin. "I like it here." She paused for a moment, then added, "you wanna help me practice with Fox?"
"Sure," I nodded, getting to my feet again. Fox and she had been practicing her water-controlling abilities on the stream by the water supply all week. I told Tyler and Mia where I was going, and we were off.

We met Fox close by the food supply, putting some berries in her now-empty water bottle.
"Hey," I said, wrapping my arms around her waist from behind.
"Hey," she replied, putting her hand on mine. "Come to help us practice?"
"Mhm," I nodded, releasing her. I turned and picked up Sara, twirling her around then setting her down.
"Show him what you've learned," Fox said to the child, who immediately nodded and closed her eyes. The stream remained the same, then suddenly bubbled, and parted. It stayed like that for about ten seconds, then crashed back together.
"Good!" I praised, impressed. She had gotten a lot better at controlling water since we left.
"That's as far as we've gotten, but I think if we keep practicing, she'll be a pro in no time," Fox smiled, proud of her work and of Sara.
Sara beamed, then grabbed a berry and ate it. I wasn't worried, since we had clarified that the berries were edible.

Sara had gone back to camp earlier, leaving Fox and I to talk. We were sitting in the leaves and pine needles, playing with each other's hands. She laughed at how large my hands were, and I simply laughed along.
Now, though, we were laying on our backs, our fingers intertwined, looking up at the setting sun. I looked over at her, and her green eyes seemed to reflect the sun; they were bright and lively. Her hair was spread effortlessly around her head, and her smiling face made me happy all on its own.
"Hey," I said, my voice a whisper.
She looked over at me with an easy smile. "Yeah?"
"What would you do if I kissed you?"
She raised an eyebrow, never losing her smirk. "I guess you'll have to find out." She was whispering now as well.
I looked at her for a moment. Then I leaned in, and I kissed her.
