memories of Irondale

I step out on my high school grounds

outside with the birds chirping

the sky is bright blue

with clouds spread across the sky

I stare into the sun

my eyes have gone blind

I can feel the warmth of the sun

beating upon my pale face

I look down

I see my shadow slowly slipping into the shade

the air smells cool and crisp

with the scent of morning rain

I can hear the crack of a ball being hit

and see a boy run

as if in a parade

there is joy and laughter in the air

peoples voices getting louder

then fading away as quickly

as they came

the freshly cut grass shimmers

with morning dew

a cool light breeze picks up

and caresses my rosemary face

a take a step forward

then look back

so many memories rest here

oh I know I will miss it so

the wind dies down

then strikes me with surprise

the wind sways my hair

as I close my eyes

the memories from freshman to senior year

flash by

there is the hill

where seniors stood to be taken pictures of

there is the annoying sound in the distance

with the buzzing of machines

there is the fence

where I met one of my best friends in gym class

there is this pain in my chest as I look around me

so many memories rest here

never soon to be forgotten

these memories make me very sad

for I know in two weeks that is

all I will have of Irondale

I will go to college and make new memories

but I know that they will not seem the same to me

I see a bright little green tree standing proudly and alone

I'm sure some things may change here

shuffling my feet as I walk away

I can feel the gravel beneath me

I know my heart will always stay

a teenager

what I became when I stepped into this school

is no longer a child

but soon to be an adult

it has taught me many lessons

although I’m sure some

I could do without

I will miss sitting in class praying for the day to be over

dodging through the crowds of people

just to get to class on time

but most of all

I will miss

being a senior
