I slammed my laptop shut and fell back into my seat with a sigh, then shot right back up to standing.
"Finished!"
"You finished it?" My mother's voice called from down the hall.
I danced around my room in celebration and then out to her in front of our sagging gray couch. "Yep! After three months of drafting and three more months of edits, it's finally done. My fifth, and albeit best, short film screenplay." I closed my eyes and did a dramatic bow.
"Great! I'll have to read it soon."
"Well, you're in luck because it just finished printing." I skipped off back to our office and scooped my script from the printer's tray.
She set aside the book she had been reading and took the warm pages from me. Her eyes quickly scanned over them as she flipped through my script, before setting them down on her lap. "I'll get right on it," she smiled at me.
"Wonderful. But I'll need it back by tonight so I can take it with me to class tomorrow to show my professor."
"Of course." I left my mother then to start on her promised reading, and returned to my room to call Sydney and tell her the good news.
-
"Well it's about time!" She exclaimed with a laugh. "Now we can start making it and you'll make the both of us famous in the process."
"Ugh, yes. This one is already my best script, and I can't wait to show it to Prof. Singh tomorrow."
"Ooh yes, I can't wait to read it too."
I rolled my eyes with a smile. "You've already read it, like, ten times, Syd. You've helped me make it a lot better."
"True, yes very true..." she trailed off in good humor. I laughed. "But this doesn't make me want to read it any less. I'm sure it's incredible."
The call ended soon after and I fell back on my bed with my phone landing on my chest. I sighed in relief and smiled at my ceiling. After months of hard work, it all paid off and I couldn't wait to get started on my future in filmmaking.
