Evelyn sighed, entering the trailer to find her mother on the couch, asleep. She shook her head, beginning to pick up the trash on the coffee table and on the floor. She didn't know how her mother managed to live the way she did, her place a total pigsty. It wasn't much different from when Evelyn herself lived there. She got everything cleaned up before making breakfast. She plated some eggs with toast and fruit and made some coffee. She took it all into the living room, setting them on the coffee table before going to get her medication. Her mother had cancer, liver cancer that was eating at her from the inside. It wouldn't be so bad if she actually took care of herself. Evelyn wasn't sure why she was surprised, she wouldn't have liver cancer if she had taken better care of herself when she was younger.
She sat on the coffee table, next to the food as she tried to shake her mother awake, "mom. Connie!"
Connie groaned, brushing Evelyn off her.
"For fuck's sake. You have to get up and take your medicine."
Connie groaned again, sitting up, "I'm sick. You could be nicer. Where is your bedside manner?"
Evelyn rolled her eyes, "I save it for the patients I like. Here." She handed Connie the pills and a glass of water. "You need to take your medication."
Connie shook her head, trying to bat Evelyn's hand away.
Evelyn scoffed, "funny, you never had trouble with drugs before."
Connie yanked the medication from her hand, "you're such a bitch."
Evelyn shrugged, "yeah well. Wonder why." She watched her mother take the medication, drinking the water. "Good. I made you breakfast. You're welcome. I'll go shopping and get you some more stuff."
"Why don't you just put me out of my misery and kill me?"
Evelyn laughed, "I would if I could. But I'm not living with that on my conscious. You're the one that gets to die with a dirty conscious, not me."
Connie started to cry, "why do you hate me so much? I was a good mother! I did the best I could.."
"I wish I could have the selective memory you seem to have." Evelyn snarked as she swept the floor of the kitchen. She did the dishes as she listened to her mother's alligator tears while she ate her breakfast. She finished, seeing her mother was done eating as she took her dishes away, cleaning them for her. "I put lasagna in the fridge. Warm it up when you're hungry later. You have to eat. Or I guess don't. I don't really care anymore."
Connie shook her head. "So ungrateful!"
Evelyn laughed, standing in front of the door, "ungrateful? What exactly should I be grateful for? The drug habit I had to kick by myself because you and your boyfriends thought it was funny to shoot me up as a teenager? You selling my body so you could stay stocked in drugs?"
Connie scoffed, "you only remember the bad.."
"Oh my god. You don't hear anything! You're lucky I even take pity on you to come and take care of you everyday! Where are all those men you brought home now? You're old and alone, and you deserve to be!" Evelyn stormed out of the trailer, slamming the door as she did. She collapsed on the stairs, bringing her hands up to her face as she sobbed. She groaned when she heard her phone ringing. She looked to see it was Chris.
Evelyn

SorryChris

I have to goChris
I'm here if you want to talk 😘
I'll call you tonight?Evelyn sighed, not responding as she put her phone back into her pocket. The last thing she needed was for Captain America to see her for the broken mess she really was. After everything that had happened, there was no way he would still want her.

Evelyn heard her phone ringing as she laid in bed. She sighed, answering it, "I don't really feel like talking Chris. I had a bad day."
'Do you want to talk about it Evie? Something happen with one of your patients today?'
She sighed, "sort of. My mother is one of my patients."
'Oh. Evie. I'm sorry. What's wrong with her?'
Evelyn scoffed, "what isn't wrong with her?" She sighed, shaking her head, "she has liver cancer. You don't know anything about me or what I've been through. I think we should just stop talking before we get too far Chris."
'What? Why?! Because your mom is sick? Talk to me Evie. Whatever it is, I'm not going anywhere.'
She groaned, "right. You and every other man that has said that. I'd rather not unload my baggage on you Chris. I have to go to sleep. I have an early morning."
Chris sighed, 'okay. Well I'm not going anywhere. You don't have to hide from me Evie..'
"Goodnight Chris." Evelyn hung up the phone before he could respond, tossing her phone towards the end of the bed as she began to cry. There was no way she would be able to open up to Chris the way he wanted her to. She groaned, wiping her face as she closed her eyes, trying to sleep.
