Pitfalls of television

You still lay awake in bed, the room heated up a bit, yet its still enough to prevent you from sleeping.
Cold water could help, for some minutes, but there is something else, not only the heat is keeping you up.
Those thoughts did not leave your mind since this evening, they nag at your mind.
This warm feeling of bubbling affection, but also this lingering sense of regret.
There were only a small amount of break-ups, however, each one stinged with its own poison, you felt tricked, used, each time the world seemed a little bit more bleak. Maybe you even lost yourself in those times, changing and discarding parts of an old personality.
A single hot tear rolls down your cheek, leaving a small, damp path.

It feels like it comes from nowhere, as a sudden jolt of energy hits you, brushing your head empty.
Some hope glows back up, nothing is set forever, you learned it the hard way, yes, but did your past not give you valuable lessons?
You take a deep breath, the air is maybe a bit stale, but nonetheless, it helps setting yourself straight.
The mistakes of the past are made, that does not mean you should let them weigh you down, maybe Ahri tries to play you, but you will not fall for it another time.
You decide to let time do its magic, maybe you are just overthinking again, not everything ends bad.

You are the first one to get up the next morning, as you come downstairs after your routine, Ahris door is still closed, so you decide to be the first one to eat breakfast today.
While munching on your cereal, you try to come up with plans for today. Looking around the living room, two things come up, the first one, fixing the TV signal and the second one, the backyard.
Just thinking about the amount of work needed to even get some order into the jungle that the backyard is, you decide to prioritize fixing the TV signal.
It cannot be that hard, you think, the satellite dish is on top of the roof, grandpa showed you the hatch that leads onto the roof and if you could do it as kid, you sure as hell can do it now.

Placing a bowl on Ahris side of the table, you place a note beside it, you do not really know how she could help you today, so it reads more like a Do-whatever-you want-note.
You just hope the house does not burn down while you sit on top of it.
Leaving the living room and making your way past the guest room, you have to chuckle, she went earlier to bed than you and is still sleeping.
Maybe it is a thing of her species, this world always surprised you with special people.
These thoughts are soon replaced with some questions, as you look up to the ceiling to find the hatch for the attic. It needs some time until you finally can make out the outlines.
Prying it open after a few tries and getting the ladder down, you can finally climb up.

The attic feels stuffy, just from opening the hatch you created a cloud of dust that whirls around.
Pulling your shirt over your nose, you begin to search for a way to the roof, only to notice soon enough, that your parents decided to use the attic as storage for defunct stuff from the hotel.
You curse them a little for not telling you, as you inspect every inch just to find it, as the new order in the attic made it impossible for you to use any old knowledge.
After sneaking around a while over the creaking wooden boards, you find it between a tower of old pots and a pile of books.
You want to scream out in happiness that you can finally climb out, but every hasty move would raise dust, forming another grey cloud.
As you finally get the hatch open, you peak outside with your head, it faces the front yard, turning left, you can see the metal steps on the roof leading up to the top of the roof.
Giving them a shake to be sure that they are still reliable, you can declare them safe for now.

The first steps are a bit shaky, out onto the roof and up the small steps while the sunrays beam down onto you. At first the fresh breeze blowing outside made it seem like it was far better outside, but as you sit on the rooftop, inspecting the dish, you cannot help but feel fooled by nature.
Only having some rudimentary understanding of the dish, you still know it probably has to point to the sky, making slight adjustments, you still do not know if it actually helped, or how much time you spent carefully moving it so it will not break.
Just one thing can show if you succeeded, the TV showing something.

But as you stand in the living room, holding the remote control in your hand, the TV shows static, less static than before, but still static. You know, what task awaits you, a game of fine adjustment until the TV does not look like it tries to pull you into a horror movie.
Every trip up and down wears on you, the heat of the roof, the cool air in the living room. Maybe Ahri could help, she checks the signal and then just calls it up to you, but the cereal bowl is gone and so is the note, you do not even try to find her, not knowing if this would not take longer than doing it yourself.
With each try, the signal gets a bit clearer and it seems like this will be your last trip up.
But as you sit up there, making the last adjustments in the uncaring heat, you get this feeling of accomplishment again and as you lock in the changes, it feels good having it off the chest.
Sitting there, just staring at the dish, you notice the icky feeling of fabric sticking to your skin.
Your shirt feels like it was doused in water, peeling it off your body is as difficult as always, but as you sit there, the sun shining on your body, it does not feel that unpleasant hot anymore.

Enjoying the moment, something suddenly seems to move in the corner of your right eye.
You are quick enough to turn to see something disappearing back into the tall grass.
For a short moment, you sit there confused, looking down into the overgrown backyard.
"Ahri?", you ask down perplexed, no answer comes back, just some rustling in the grass.
You rub your neck a bit flustered, if it was not for the heat, someone could see the light blush on your face, your mind feels like a mess.
Deciding the best would be to climb back in and ask later, you do just that.

After a cold shower and some new clothes, you can finally sit on the sofa and see something else than total darkness or static on the screen.
The sound is not perfect, some crackling can still be heard, but that does not bother you, you got it to work again and that is what counts.
After some time passing, where you just sit there and watch the moving pictures without really consuming something, it is time to begin with some preparations for dinner.
A task that falls again to you, as Ahri is still somewhere outside.
This time, a new recipe and some new difficulties, the result is a bit burned, but the taste is still awesome.
While propping up some food onto your plate, there is still no sign of Ahri, is she that embarrassed over what happened this evening or is she eating outwards.
Whatever it is, you are eating in front of the TV tonight, grandma would have judged you, grandpa would have just smiled and also moved to the TV.
And while sitting cross legged at the coffee table, just watching whatever comes up on TV, Ahri sits down beside you after some time, her own plate in her hands. She wears a white crop top and shorts, a slight tan forming on her skin.

You did not ask her while eating, but now, as she lies on the second couch while you sit on the other one, you decide to just ask.
"About that thing in the evening...", she tries to hide it, but just from the slight wiggle of the ears, you know that it was definitely her.
"I do not know what you are talking about", she blocks it off almost in an instance,
"Nothing bad about admitting it", you just say, both of you still watching TV.
A short silence takes over the room, the light dimming as the sun sets.
"So you would straight out say everything?", she turns to face you,
"Just straight out admit it", a slightly cocky undertone in your voice.
She stands up, stretches quick and suddenly sits on your lap, facing you, what normally is one tail splits up into nine, blocking the view almost complete from anything around you.
"So what about now?", a slight shimmer of violet in her eyes, as she moves her hips closer to yours, looking anywhere else is not even possible.
"Come on, where is your fortitude now?", she almost breathes those words, a somewhat begging sound, you can feel the warmth of it on your neck, a wave of energy rushing through your body.
She looks deep into your eyes, giving you a warm smile,
"Maybe I will tell you one day", she whispers, before gently biting your neck, this sense of alert tingling your body as her fangs touch your skin.
She winks at you before standing up and leaving.
Adrenaline pumps through your veins, it feels like an eternity before you can even begin to move your limbs, a dizzy feeling mixing under all those different sensations you feel.
Your blush is definitely visible now.
