The sun is already rising, as you sit down on the cold shell of the tank.
It doesn't take long for you to fish out the small etui from one of the thousand pockets of your overall.
You feel dirty, but at the same time, it feels like you cant survive without it, its just a quick glance onto it, this cursed card, the card you are unable to turn around, knowing what is written on its back.
Not the message frightens you, but its certainty, a certainty, that never helped your uncertainty, why does it feel like flying, why do you hope to be caught and hitting the ground at the same time?
You snap it back shut, pressing it tight together, white knuckled, while a small tear rolls down your cheek.
At first, you don't notice the person to your left, but as he clears his throat, you almost jump.
"Are you married, Y/N?", he takes a swig from his flask, the biting scent of alcohol wafts over to you,
"No, sir, aren't I a bit too young for that?", you answer, trying to suppress your heartache,
"Kalen is married, he's younger than you, his girl dragged him to the altar before he joined".
You look at him, your tank commander, Snyder, very defined face, his skin stretching over it, sunken in eyes and yet, they sparkle with kindness and understanding.
"I want to know my crew, want to know the men I work with, their motivation and what they want", his head turns, meeting your eyes,
"So I asked myself, what is yours? You don't talk much, just driving the tank, sitting on the outlines of the camps, alone. Thought you were a spy at first, how you always kept to yourself and your... etui".
Your heart skips a beat, he has seen you with it, how you stared into it, does he think you are a creep that stares at an autograph of some pop idol for hope?
"You don't smoke, never seen you doing it, so the option of some expensive cigs fell out, until I got a look at what you were looking at, so not your wife, but your girl?", he lowered his voice, reading your body language.
You just sit there, silently, fumbling around with the etui in your hands,
"Its...", you attempt a sentence, but it ends in a sigh, "I don't know, sir, I never understood...",
"If you are unsure about it, you should make up your mind, because there could be no time left".
Surprised, you look at him, as he stares into the horizon,
"Are we...?", you ask, suddenly frozen,
"We are crossing in three days, peace talks have broken down, command decided to let them feel the pressure", his words weigh heavy on you, he just nods, as he pats you on your shoulder,
"The war will end soon and we will have to find a new purpose in life, we should be happy".
He doesn't sound convinced, you know what it means and suddenly, you feel like you can no longer avoid it.Somewhere else, with less sorrow and hate.
"All it took was the release of their new hit single, to make the one year hiatus worth it for the fans, with record...", the radio commentator is cut off, as Eve bluntly pulls the cord.
"Aughh, couldn't we have made two years out of it?", she sighs, leaning against the wall of the light-blue painted wall,
"Weren't you the only one upset about the hiatus at the start?", Ahri gives her smile, cradling the small she is holding.
Eve rolls her eyes, her posture tells another story, but Ahri has seen the other side of the diva, when the baby is around, she no longer wears her knife-like finger nails, she even plays with her daughter when she thinks no one is paying attention to her.
"Maybe I was, but are you ready again? I have no idea what it takes to get a good result out of this rug rat", Evelynn gestures to her chest,
"I asked my mom, some advice, I think, I won't follow, but I think I can handle it".
Evelynn nods, before suddenly pulling the door shut, the laughter of Akali and Kai'sa is suddenly shut off, her facial expression shifts.
"Ahri?", she asks, you can see it troubling her,
"Yes, Eve?", worry lays in her voice,
"Who is the father of her?".
That question startles Ahri, a cold hand clutching her heart, a question she avoided so far, she was shielded from the outside since she realized she was pregnant.
Ahri avoids Eves glairing eyes,
"I know, that you know who the father is, you are not the type to just sleep around, so, who is he?",
"A sweet boy...", she mumbles, looking down,
"Oh, don't tell me what I think you are going to tell me...", Eve leaves her spot at the door, approaching her.
"Ahri, we had a talk about this a while ago, did it happen again?".
Tears roll down her cheek, the small bundle wriggles a bit, it feels the shifting mood, is scared by the sudden change.
"I wanted, Eve, I really wanted to, but I couldn't, I just couldn't, it still haunts me, it still drags me down, why do I fear losing something that only ever meant something to my parents?", Ahri cries out.
Eve gently takes the baby from Ahri, calming it down, as she carefully lays it into the cradle, returning to Ahri afterwards, carefully swiping away one of her tears.
"We all make mistakes, boo, but just swallowing down won't solve the problems, did you two try to make up?", Eve meets Ahris eyes, a sudden shock going through her,
"He doesn't know?", she asks, her eyes widen,
"I didn't have the opportunity to tell him, I even, his village, his family... I don't know where he went, Eve...", Ahri cries out again, the pain cuts her off, gasping for air,
"We can find him, im sure, all is okay",
"What if hes dead, Eve, what if i...",
"No, don't think about that, maybe he moved, to some city, I have some contacts, we can...".
The door swings open, Kai'sa is momentarily startled by the sight in front of her,
"We got a letter, for you specifically, Ahri...".
