You did not sleep well in the heat of the last night, maybe because of other factors, but that is something you do not want to think about just yet, this is a thing your imagination already did for you.
Still getting a tingly feeling whenever just a bit of it crosses your mind, you cannot understand what it really was, just teasing?
Or something entirely else?
You rub your face, as if that would make the thoughts go away. It is day five, just nine more or so and everything will go on as before.
Just as you thought you were done, another question creeps in.Do you even want it to go back to normal?
Letting out a small sigh of frustration over this situation, you go downstairs, straight heading for the living room.
"Good morning, Y/N!", you nearly jump, as Ahri already awaits you at the laid dining table, two bowls, two spoons, a pack of milk and a new box of Teem-Ohs.
"I waited for you, only a bit longer and I would have started without you", she explains as you take a seat,
"Thanks, I guess", you answer, while waiting for Ahri to pour herself some cereal,
"Just a plain thanks?", she makes a pout face, nearly stabbing through the bowl,
"Oh, you are right, I should throw myself at your feet".
You say it sarcastically, but as you look at Ahri, she has a hard to read smile on her face.
"It would be a beginning", she looks you in the eyes while putting the spoon with a portion of cereal into her mouth.
For some time, no one says anything anymore, just the crunching of cereal.
Maybe because you do not know what to answer or maybe because both of you decided to maybe end the topic right there, but as you eat the last spoons of cereal, she starts another talk."So, what do you have planned for today? Yesterday was boring", she asks, while stirring the milk for a bit.
"Well, we could look what that was in the tall gra...", she already gives you a glance even before you can finish your sentence.
Not knowing if you really should push your luck already, you decide that it may be the best to take it slow, you never know what else could happen.
"I did not plan anything for today, so, I guess we have to look and start on something" you answer.
"What about the old pool in the backyard?",
"The old pool? We can take a look I think", you say while shrugging a bit, not actually knowing in which condition it actually is.
"Sweet, see you there!", she exclaims, vanishing into the hall, you hear the door of the guest room closing. So the work on the backyard begins, maybe the pool is not the worst option to start, perhaps it needs just some fixing, the water is drained since years. As you look over the tiled hole in the ground, you realize, that perhaps, some more work is needed.
Its overall condition looks good, just needs a scrubbing of all the tiles and draining off the dark mud of rainwater and leaves.
"Looks good overall, just some ...", Ahri startles you for a second time this day, causing you to nearly stumble into the empty pool.
"You are really digging that surprise thing?", you say somewhat nerfed,
"Maybe I just dig your taken-by-surprise face".
You turn around, focusing back onto the pool.
"We will need some buckets, to drain and clean it",
"At it already".Noon passes as the last bucket with the dark sludge is emptied out into the woods, the sun itself is hiding behind some clouds, nonetheless the heat pushes down onto you two, even more than before.
Two pair of shoes lie in the grass besides the pool, the position of the pool under the trees provides some shade.
"So why do your grandparents have a pool? There is a lake nearby, right?", Ahri asks while taking a break from scrubbing the tiled walls,
"It is way worth a small hike, and down the hill, so not really something for an elderly couple and it is still going to be very warm".
"But they could care about the pool?", it is not meant badly, you can hear that,
"I guess running a hotel for over forty years prepares you better for things like that than hikes".
Ahri chuckles a bit as she begins scrubbing again.
"My nan always said, it would never be too early to start or too late to stop, so just go on", Ahri replies.
"This sounds like a terrible advice in certain situations",
"Well, that is what pop always said afterwards, but nan did not care, she was a gardener and said she would be a gardener until she died", she says in some type of sad voice.
"But is it really worth it continuing with something that just makes you unhappy?".
Ahri does not answer at first, leaving you stuck in an awkward silence.
"I always thought that she was somewhat right, sometimes it is better to run with things, even if they hurt, it is often the best way to just go",
"Sounds like something strict parents would tell you".
She does not answer, just silence, as you turn you see that her neck is a bit drawn in, the ears lie very close to the head. The wind picked up a bit, clouds now drenching the sky grey.
"Everything okay Ahri?", you are a bit worried, she turns, looking almost caught,
"I... it is just that...".
