Cricket POV
Moments after August had me settled down on the couch, he had disappeared into the kitchen. I noticed Nick has left the living room too. "Where did Nick go?" I asked. "I'm back here. I figured you was here just for August." He shouted back. "No love, I'm here for the both of you. Come get your plate!" I caught a gimps of August looking back at me from the kitchen. "Nigga she brought cupcakes too!" He shouted excitedly. "And some ice colds bruh get in here!" Nick was speed walking past the living room and into the kitchen faster than the speed of light. It was like watching kids opening presents on Christmas morning. The excitement on their faces brought me joy. It makes it worth while being in that hot kitchen for 3 hours. "Damn this really smell good ma."
Soon enough we was all sitting in the living room watching T.V and enjoying the food. All I heard was forks and knives clanging on the plates and a few mmm's here and there."Thanks for the dinner Cricket, You are a lifesaver." Nick said sucking down the last of his beer. "I wouldn't say all that now. At least not yet." I replied back. "I just wanted to do something nice for you guys. Must suck being hostages in your own home." Nick nodded. "Yeah...but its cool." August took a sip from his second beer and he had a weird look on his face. "May I help you sir?" He chuckled. "Yea, in a lot of ways." "Oh, How so?" He smiled. "By telling me whats the next move. Its been a couple of days since we last spoke." I had an ideal plan on how to help him but not an actual plan plan how to go about it. I couldn't tell him about it now. "Just know everything is handled. We will talk details later." Nick all of a sudden had a wave of emotion run across his face. "And how much longer will that be? We are about to go crazy in here!" Just then lightening sparked across the sky followed was a loud boom. Shit I had no idea it was going to storm tonight. looks like I'm going have to wait it out here til i can make a run for it to Jay's. I couldn't possibly stay here... could I?
August POV
"Its getting late. You wanna crash here for the night?" I cant believe I just asked her that. I mean she wouldn't. She could but, she wouldn't. Jay would have her ass if he caught wind she stayed the night. I would have more trouble on my hands. She looked up at me with a frown. " I would..." she started. "But..."
She couldn't even finish. What was she shy about it? I would never think I would see this side of her being shy ever in my life. "I'm terrified of thunderstorms." She finished with her face turning beet red. It was so cute I had to laugh. "Are you serious? It's nothing but noise love. It's really nothing to be afraid of." She covered her face and laid back into the couch. "C'mon ma, what gives?" She said nothing. Walking to the couch another loud boom erupted. I could see she was tensed up, but this time she favored her left knee with her hand. "Cricket? Mama what's wrong?" Another flash of lightening flashed across the sky followed by another clap of thunder only this time it was louder. She jumped up. As soon as her feet touched the floor she attempted to take a few steps until she stated to fall forward. Quickly I got up to catch her by her arm. For a moment that felt forever we stood there. Listening to the pouring rain fall from the window pane.
"Talk to me love." At that moment she looked up at me. I could see she felt ashamed in some way. Her eyes was to the point where they wanted to tear up. Her green eyes seemed darker. She blushed and looked back down to the floor. Another minute passed. Then here comes another clap of lightening. Her whole body flinched but her left leg seems to have gave out on her. At that moment I couldn't see her like this anymore. I took her by her hand off the floor and lifted her up. She couldn't stand up long enough to the point for me to pick her properly so I had to get her fast. "August what are you doing? Put me do..." "No I will not put you down. "I'm getting you off that leg and putting you to bed. You are definitely not going anywhere no time soon in this type of condition." As I carried her to my room I looked down at her.She had a grumpy look on her face. "Don't nobody care baby that you mad. I'm only helping you out. cheer up." Her facial expression furrowed and I could do nothing but chuckle. Walking by Nick's room he looked up in total shock.
He mouthed "what the fuck" but I couldn't answer him back. Finally I get up to my room I gently placed her down on the bed. She still had that pouty look on her face. "I'm fine." She said attempting to stand back up. I placed my hand on her shoulder and gently pushed her back down. "No, sit down and tell me whats wrong?" She looked up and me and then back down. A few moments of silence she bent over to roll up her pant leg. As she rolled it up she stopped at her knee. There was a noticeable scar where her knee meets the lower leg. "I have several pins and plates in my knee. It was shattered years ago in an accident. It bothers the hell out of me when it storms like this." She moved closer to the edge of the bed. "Don't you dare try to stand up. Chill out." I moved closer and all she could do is look to her left out the window.
Do I intimidate her? I backed back. " I'm sorry ma, I don't mean to..." "No you are fine. Its just...never thought I would be up here with you...in this type of situation." She started blushing again. "Why you blushing. I'm not gonna try to be fresh witchu or nun like dat. I wouldn't even dare withchu." I sat down with her on the bed. Just then a rip of lightening raced across the sky. Five seconds later here comes the thunder. Her legs were shaking. "Ma...is there something I could do to help ease the pain?"
Cricket POV
All I could do is look up at him with awe. He really do seemed concerened with me. This whole time I felt like a little school girl. Shy and not speaking back when someone is talking to you. That feeling if you say something you may blurt out something embarrassing. I don't know what it is but I swear it's annoying. This isn't me. But what am I to do? I can't shake this shit at all. Might as well ride this out because this storm isn't going anywhere no time soon. "Yeah...do you guys have anything like rubbing alchol? Icy hot or something like that?" "Finally you answered me. Had me thinking you went mute on a nigga. Hol'up I think we got some in the bathroom." He got up slowly with a glare my way. "Dont move iight" He slowly disappeared to the hallway. At that moment the loudest of the loud filled the air. Just like that the power was out. My heart began to race.
August POV
After spending a few minutes rambling though the medicine cabinet in the dark I finally found the rubbing alcohol and a barely used icy hot tube. As i walked out the hallway it was pitched black. Even my door was closed down to a crack. I didnt do that. "Cricket are you alright?" Nothing. "C'mon man I know she didn't..." I raced back to the end of the hallway. BOOM!
Cricket POV
"Ouch!" On the floor and I can bet my last 45 dollars if I can manage to roll over August will be standing at the door. I manged to roll on my back and there he was. Standing over me. He didn't looked too pleased. "Got dammit Cricket what the fuck did I tell you before I left up out of here?" I couldn't do nothing but roll my eyes. "Just help me back up shit." As I extended my hand up to him he pushed it away. "Nah. Not this time." I just layed there. "Fine" He circled back around down to my feet. "What were you doing any way?" He sat down at my legs. "I was trying to stretch. I failed obviously!" Suddle thunder filled the air. "Does it still hurt?" He asked. "Yeah quite a bit." I felt my left pants leg roll up and I felt the urge to kick back at him. "You better not mama!" He urged through his teeth. "Im only trying to help you. Here." He gently placed an alcohol soaked rag on my knee. for a minute it felt good. Then i could feel the alcohol taking away the painful ache. Within moments i felt relaxed. I exhaled.
"So are you okay now? Are yo out of the woods?" He chuckled. "yea i'm fine. Thank you August." The rain had eased up a bit. It was a bit soothing. Soothing enough to fall asleep to. Moments of silence past before i felt August removed the rag and rubbed my knee gently. "oh my God." I never felt so much pleasure from a massage to my knee in my entire life. "is this alright." I couldnt say anything else. He kept going. "Do you wanna talk about it? He asked. I shook my head. I just wanted to enjoy this kind gesture from the boy next door.
