Cricket POV
The day before
Walking into the house with my heart pumping wild. "I can't believe them niggas thought I could be down with that shit." I said to myself. They must not know me forreal. I am who I am for a reason. I like to consider myself as the Robin Hood of the streets. I don't steal from the rich to give to the poor. I just make sure everything is fair game. I don't deal drugs. I just help make the operations to sell them run smoothly for not only my crew but for others. I'm not exactly sure on how I achieved the status I have with the streets. Everywhere go there is a great deal of respect for me. Crimes dealing with niggas killing each other over drugs have gone down since I came around. I hate dealing with death. I have had my fair share of it. Especially since I had a brush with it when I was younger.
"You iight Crick?" Juice asked me. His voice spooked me a bit. I thought I was here alone for a while. That was the whole reason those dudes showed up. "I'm good." Taking a deep breath I turned around to face him. "I didn't know you was home." He grabbed a seat from the kitchen table and offered it to me. I acknowledged the gesture and sat down. "You know I'm never far away from you Cricket. I only went to the store." Juice was like a shadow to me. Ever since he took me in years ago I was something like a daughter to him. Juice was 12 years older than me. Tall and somewhat on the dark skin side. Age seem to have caught up with him over the years, since he smokes cigarettes, so you could kind of tell his age right off the bat. It used to not be that way. I was 12 when I met him and he looked like he could be 17 or 18.
I never knew why he targeted me that faithful day we met. I was just getting out of dance class late and he was standing across the street under a light pole. When I started to move down the sidewalk. He would be doing the same, but on the other side. At first I thought it was a coincidence. After a few blocks I got scared. I mean, what does it look like a man following me down the same block as me. When I moved, He moved. When I turned the corner. He would cross the street and follow. After about 10 minutes I was fed up with it. So i decided to confront him. I didn't want to but I wanted him to stop following me.
"Do you remember how we met Cricket?" I smiled. "I was just thinking about that." Yeah I remember, you creep!" We both shared a laugh. "Iight man I know it was weird but I was just looking out" I frowned. "I know."
*Flashback*
"what the hell is your problem?" The sternness in in my voice surprised me and much as the look on this man's face. "whoa watch your mouth there lil mama." I looked at him with disgust. "Are you kiddin' me? Watch my mouth? Nigga you should watch where you step!" with a confused look he stepped forward. I faked left then right. Causing him to second guess his stepping. Right then he stepped into a small pot hole and fell forward. "Ah! What the fuck!" I looked in horror and ran away. He looked pissed. I had to take this chance to get away from this creep. As I ran down the street and into a well lit alley, I felt like had lost him. He was on the ground when I left him so I don't know if he got up and decided to chase after me. At least I lost him.
"Hey pretty lady, how are you?" A chill traveled slowly up my spine. I knew then that I had made a bad mistake. I didn't want to turn around to see who was talking to me. "God, please send me an angel to protect me. I just want to go home." I prayed quietly to myself. "I'm talking to you pretty lady" He said again. This time I had to turn around. If I had to make a move I had to at least know where he was and not to go. Standing up against this wall was this tall and slender dude. All black and a baseball cap on.I couldn't even see his face. Everything about this dude screamed trouble. He stoop upright and stepped towards me. "Little girl I'm talking to you. Speak to me you little bitch!" All i could do is scream and run the opposite direction. "Hey! Come here I just wanna talk to you!" He screamed after me. As soon as I hit the end of the alley that creep was standing there. This time he had a evil look on his face. I froze. I was trapped.
The creep walked towards me in a very fast pace. At and impulse I felt ready to fight for my life. As he got closer his looked softened and he told me "Don't worry Cricket I got you." The feeling i had subsided. "Huh?" He kept walking past me and down the alley where the other guy was standing. Without warning the creep punched the guy and continued to beat this guy down. "You like to follow little girl and mess with them huh? Nigga you make me sick! How can you live with yourself doing what you do! You sick piece of shit!" right then he was getting out of hand. He was about to kill that guy. "stop it!" I screamed. He looked at me and looked down. He spit on the guy "Fuck Boy", and walked back to me. "c'mon let me walk you home."
*Current*
"Yes that day is what started this beautiful relationship." Juice said. Since that day I vowed I was never to be far away from you. You're like a daughter to me. I had to stick around the house something told me to." All I could do is smile. "So what them niggas wanted? I looked down. " Those niggas were insights. They wanted me to help set up a move on a guy." Juice shook his head. "Them niggas wanted you to be a snitch and a backstabber?" I laughed. "Yea can you believe that? They must know who I am or really fucking stupid to try me." Juice got up from the table and walked to the fridge. "Who they wanted you to get anyway?" After about a few moments of silence of me not answering his question, Juice finally took his head out the fridge. "Cricket?" His looked hardened. "Is it Relle?" I shook my head. "James?" I shook my head once again. "Then who dammit?" I took a deep breath and came out with it. "August. They want me to help kill August."
