Gravity
Chapter Six

Eli pulled open her bedroom door and was immediately hit with a strong smell of coffee. Her mouth seemed to water as her legs guided her towards the watered-down crack bean that her father had brewed. She walked passed the living room and straight into the kitchen to grab a cup, noticing her father sitting in the recliner watching television.

"Morning," She greeted him. "What're you watching?"

"Romeo and Juliet. You left it in the DVR... It's confusing as hell." Alex smiled at his younger daughter, who seemed to be in a good mood. "Also, Kim called. She said she'd be here in about twenty minutes. But that was about twenty minutes ago, though. I forgot to tell you. Sorry." He chuckled nervously.

An amused smile grew onto her features when he told her that he was watching the movie she had put on the night before. Of course, it was probably because he was too lazy to turn off the DVR, but she still found it a little amusing how he and Paul had a habit of watching her shows and movies. She knew she had good taste though so she didn't blame them.

"It's okay." She shook her at her father's forgetfulness and sat down on the couch to drink her coffee while she waited.

"Your mother also called this morning..." He mentioned more hesitantly. "She said to call her when you could."

Eli inhaled sharply. It wasn't that she didn't want to talk to her mother, per se. It was that she feared what her mother wanted to speak to her about. Her mom was not the type of person to call to see how she was doing without having something else she wanted to talk about.

Eli was about to respond when she heard the sound of the gravel outside being disturbed. She placed her half-drunken cup of coffee onto the table and pushed herself up from the couch. "They're here. Want me to turn off the DVR before I leave?" She questioned as she pulled on her shoes.

"Nah.. I'll deal with it." Alex waved her off. "Go have fun- but not too much!"

Eli shook her head at her father and bid him goodbye before walking out the door. When she noticed the car full of females she smiled and made her way toward the vehicle.

"Hey, Eli!" Kim was the first to greet her. Kim sat in the passenger seat while Rachel was in the diver seat. Eli couldn't help but notice how flawless they looked compared to herself. Rachel and Kim were breathtakingly beautiful without even trying. Even dressed in the most uninteresting clothing they looked flawless. She felt like an ogre compared to them.

"Hey," Eli mumbled, sending Kim a small smile in return.

She was quiet for the rest of the ride.

The other girls spoke to one another enthusiastically– mostly about their significant others. Eli felt left out of the conversation because she was single. Plus, she was still trying to get over her last relationship– which so happened to be her first-ever relationship as well- which unfortunately scarred her for life.

His name was Hunter and they had known each other since seventh grade.

They were in the same friend group and soon grew close quite quickly. He eventually asked Eli to go on a date with him during his freshman year of high school. Eli kept their relationship a secret from her parents because she wasn't allowed to date at that time– and she ended up being grateful that she decided not to tell them in the end. Hunter and Eli dated for a year before he dumped her on Halloween night, exactly eight months ago.
