    Chapter Twenty Seven

'I hate this.' Eli complained. She was walking through the forest with her new patrol partner; Quil. Since Jacob left a few days ago, and completely ignoring the pack, she was given shifts with Quil. Which she didn't have much of an issues with because Quil was an easing going guy– unlike everyone else she had to patrol with. Plus Quil didn't think about his imprint like everyone else did.

Everyone else thought about love and sex and their future. All Quil worried about was what presents he should get Claire for her birthday coming up in a few months, or what activities could they do when the weather starts getting colder and he couldn't take her to the beach or park anymore.

'The patrol times? I know, me too. I tried to change times with Seth but Leah almost snapped my neck off.' He chuckled.

'That's because Leah feels the most comfortable when patrolling with Seth. But I think everyone is.' Eli said, hopping down from a large rock. 'I know that I'd rather be stuck inside Seth's head than everyone else's. Though, you're not too bad to patrol with.'

'You haven't got to be around me enough then.' Quil chuckled, sniffling the ground in random. Yep, smelt like dirt. 'Especially when I'm dating someone.'

'Cant wait, then.' Eli said sarcastically. 'You date people? I thought that went against imprint codes or something.'

'My imprint is two, Eli. Obviously I'm going to date people.' Quil replied with just as much sarcasm as she has been responding to him with all night. 'Plus, I don't think me and Claire would ever be together like that. Not unless she's in her late twenties and I'm already divorced with five kids.'

'You wouldn't keep phasing to pause your aging for her?' Eli asked, curious to know what Quils responses would be. She was a little freaked out about the age gap between him and his imprint at first but then everyone explained how it "wasn't weird"– Everyone except for Quil himself.  It was still weird.

'Maybe? I don't know.' Quil chuckled at her questions. 'I think I'm more of a guardian for her than anything. A best friend. And as long as I feel that I should keep phasing to keep her safe, then I will. But we'll more than likely never be together. It's just going to be hard to find someone who won't freak out over our connection. That's the real issue.'

Eli hummed and continued walking through the forest in thought. She wondered what her and Embry would become. Would they only be friends? Did she want them to only be friends?

'Do you just want to be only friends?' Quil asked, his turn to ask the questions about their imprints.

'You heard that?' Eli frowned. She has been working on letting her guard down with them, but she always had to focus really hard to let the guard down. It was hard to do when you didn't want to let anyone in. So having Quil easily hear her thoughts meant that she had felt a little too comfortable and slipped.

'I did. So... You do like Embry?' Quil questioned, his tone rising lightly in suggestiveness.

'You know I like Embry, Quil.' She rolled her eyes.

'No, no, not like that. You know what I mean, El.'

'I don't know! My last relationship didn't exactly go that well. You seriously think I want to do that again?' She scoffed.

'Your last relationship wasn't supernatural involved and you won't have to hide it.' He reminded her. 'And he's your imprint, Eli. Don't think I don't see you guys giving each other the eyes. I notice it.'
