Chapter Twenty One
___________________________________Eli underestimated the healing process. Though, being a shifter does have its perks, such as supernatural healing in comparison to non-shifters. However, when your body forces itself to heal in such an intense manner, the pain increases. And the pain killers only worked on the shifters for so long before their body heat and healing properties fought against it, causing it to wear off.
Faint scars littered her body, twisting in such a way that nerves in a body would. The scars were nearly completely healed, but her enhanced eyesight could easily make them out. Some people might say they looked cool, but to Eli, they made her feel even more insecure. Four days passed in a blur. The only thing that lingered consistently was headaches, which Doctor Cullen assured her would eventually stop as she continued to heal.
Once she was free to leave Sue's house, the only thing she wanted to do was go home and lay down there instead, but of course her alpha has other plans. They needed to pick up where they left off.
"Okay," Eli sighed heavily as she walked into the living room. "I think I am mentally ready to share my thoughts, fears, and emotions with the big bad wolves." She said a little too enthusiastically for the situation.
Sam gave her a pointed look and stood from the couch, his tall frame compared to hers like a giant. He clearly wasn't in that great of a mood today.
"Make sure you keep that enthusiasm because you'll need it." He told her, walking towards the front door and pulling it open. He walked out into the cool afternoon air with Eli following closely behind him, her nerves growing with every step she took.
"I'll try but I can't make any promises." She replied. The two walked around the back of the house and into the nearby forest. Sam lead them deep into the wooden area before he stopped, finally turning to face the girl.
"Remember what I told you last time?" He questioned her.
"Yep," She gave a nod. "Don't worry, Sam! I'm a great listener." She gave a small grin, the action reminding Sam that she and Paul were actually related. He saw a lot of similarities in the two, especially in their smiles and short tempers.
"I sure hope so." He mumbled. "Okay, step one to phasing; think of yourself as your wolf. It's the same when returning to human form." He told her.
"I remember!" Eli gave a small nod.
She took in a deep breath, closing her eyes while she thought about different memories that upset her– even though Sam said that was a flawed way. She couldn't remember much about her wolf form enough to want to willingly phase. She needed a push.
Sam watched her closely, his eyes slightly squinted and his arms folded across his chest tightly. Her face was full of concentration but was slowly scrunching together, like the memories she chose to think about brought her sadness instead of the feeling of becoming the wolf he suggested her to think about instead.
The memories of her best friends avoiding her the day after Halloween surfaced.
She was still scared from that night and was hoping to seek comfort from her best friends, to tell them about her scary night after the two left the party early, however that wasn't what she got.
After they spent all day avoiding her, she finally cornered them in gym, wanting to know why they were ignoring her after something so traumatic happened the night before. They then proceeded to call her a psychopath, a cheater, a slut, and told her how they knew they were right to never trust her, and how they only kept her around because of Hunter.
