Gravity
Chapter Two
___________________________________Eli spent the next three days sitting inside the house. She mostly spent her time reading or watching television, but she had also cleaned and organized the house when she had gathered up enough energy. Eli hadn't seen her brother for the past few days and only saw her father in the evenings, meaning that she was alone all day long.
The only fresh air she got was when she opened the windows. She never once stepped outside of the house because of the cold rainy weather. Though she did notice that the weather was slowly improving within the days that passed and soon it was nearly a clear sky.
On Friday Eli woke up early to get ready for the beach. She didn't plan on going into the water but being near it was enough for her. She wore her usual dark jeans, long-sleeved shirt, and flannel. She tugged her knitted beanie over her head, put her sunglasses over her eyes, and soon pulled on her shoes.
She waited nearly all day for her brother to show up but he never did. She would have called him by now if she knew where to call.
Growing tired of being stuck inside the house, she decided that she would go by herself as she had originally planned.
She grabbed her backpack and shoved her notebook and pencils into it before leaving.
It was about a twenty-five-minute walk to First Beach from where they lived but she didn't mind it too much. It felt nice to get in some type of exercise after being stuck inside the small house for the past four days.
The beach wasn't too crowded that day, thankfully. Eli stepped onto the sand and a small smile tug onto her lips, feeling genuine happiness. She took her sunglasses off and placed them inside her bag while she walked along the beach. There were a few people surfing and others just enjoying the warmer weather. Most laid on towels and blankets, eating and drinking while having light conversations.
Her walking paused when her gaze landed on a certain group. A group that her brother was a part of. Her smile faded and her expression hardened.
That's why he never came...
His arm was wrapped around a beautiful girl and he was staring down at her with a huge smile. One of the guys in the group threw something at the couple, causing Paul to throw it back with a laugh.
Eli tugged her beanie further down and turned in the opposite direction, walking away quickly before he could notice her. She couldn't help the tears that started blurring her vision. She knew that it was a stupid reason to be upset but that doesn't mean that she couldn't still be upset about it.
Eli had been looking forward to spending time with her older brother since before she got there. Like when they were younger. She understood that they were both grown now but that shouldn't mean that they couldn't spend time together anymore. Right? They used to go to the movies and the diner all the time. Did that much actually change in such a short time? Or maybe it wasn't such a short time. She hadn't visited La Push in a long while and only saw him when he decided to come to visit her and their mother in Tacoma– which had become a rare occasion.
She did mess up another relationship, didn't she? Her friends, her family, her boyfriend. All ruined because of her. She ruined a lot of things she felt.
Eli held back the tears that threatened to fall the best that she could. Everything around her was blurry and she started feeling light-headed. She forced herself forward until she was almost off the beach, nearing the car park. She lowered her head and whipped her wet eyes, trying to clear her blurry vision.
