Chapter Twenty Two

Sat on the stool as Sue brushed through her hair gently, cutting the dark waves until it sat just underneath her jawline. Eli stared off into the distance, her mind numb and quiet for once.

She has had a very exhausting and confusing few months.

Though, Eli's situation was exhausting and confusing for everyone involved. She struggled to explain anything in detail to the pack and elders. Without the mind link, they would never truly understand. Especially when they weren't the ones to be hit with the mental attacks just yet. No matter how much she wanted to open the full mind link something was stopping her- something big. Over time, she found her new pack members jealous of her closed-off thoughts. She didn't blame them but it still hurt her deeply.

Though once she found the drawings hidden underneath her bed, a wave of memories seemed to flow through her. Though the pack seemed to continue to doubt her credibility and sanity when she attempted to explain the situation, there was a beacon.

The day that Eli had gotten struck by lightning, Embry was at home asleep, nearly missing his patrol time. Through the dream, a man appeared to him. He was tall, muscular, and wore a smirk. Whilst the man's lips were forming words that Embry couldn't quite recall, he felt stunned by how much he resembled the LaHote family.

Embry couldn't recall what the man was telling him, but he knew that it was serious by how angry he suddenly became.

The pack seemed to change their thoughts within the first few seconds that he shared the dream. Right then Eli realized how much their mind link was necessary. Had she been the one to openly share her thoughts, they could have figured the situation out sooner and wouldn't have thought of her to be insane. It only took Embry a few seconds for them to believe him.

"So... you're a doppelgänger," Leah stated, staring at the drawing of the woman that looked similar to Eli, only slightly older. "And the leech wanted to turn you but the Dakota guys spirit wolf helped you phase?" The woman turned her gaze onto the younger girl, her eyebrow raised.

"Pretty much," Eli confirmed, keeping still while Sue continued to chop her hair off. "I think."

"And he basically killed this Dakota guy and his imprint Awinita after he was turned because he was in love with her but she said she couldn't love anyone... then went and fell in love with Dakota afterward because he imprinted on her?" She continued, making sure that she understood everything correctly.

"Yep." Eli gave a slight nod, her eyes meeting Leah when Sue moved her head up to make sure that her hair was even.

"And I thought I was a part of a bad love triangle," Leah mumbled, dropping the sketchbook back onto the kitchen table. Sue chuckled at her daughter's comment and stepped away from the girl, finally done with her hair.

"I'm done," Sue told her, going to grab the broom to sweep up the hair on the floor.

Eli stood from the stool and walked towards the mirror, scrunching her face up slightly from the shortest length she has ever had it before. She usually liked her hair long– however, she had to cut it a few months back when gum magically appeared in her hair. She tried everything to get it out but it never budged.

"Thank you, Sue." Eli sent her a small smile.

"No problem, sweetie." Sue returned the smile as she continued to sweep the floor and place everything back where it belonged.
