«««»»»"You may either accompany me on my stallion or," Lexa paused to point at a large man who was seated on his horse, "his." And with that she climbed onto her horse.
It was a beautiful stallion, it's black coat glistened in the sunlight. The right side of his face was an ice white, exempting him from any other horse Clarke had seen.
Despite still untrusting of the grounders, Clarke placed her 'trust' in Lexa. The blonde had seen, although it was little, vulnerability in the brunette. Not to mention, it seemed as if last night Lexa had attempted to comfort her. She supposed Lexa wanted this alliance as much as Clarke did. Maybe even more.
She struggled to place herself behind Lexa, Lexa herself having to stifle a snicker. Lexa then reached behind her, grabbing the struggling blonde's wrist and pulling her up.
Clarke finally sat upon the horse with a huff. "Not funny." She spoke with a rare amount of playfulness coating her voice. She had noticed the brunette stifling a laugh, something she has no idea the Commander was capable of.
"Of course not, Clarke." Lexa responded, a hint of sarcasm coating her voice as she faced forward.
Clarke's body became stiff. Was she supposed to hold onto Lexa? Was she allowed to? Clarke put her thoughts away and decided to awkwardly set them on the horse, behind herself and near the back of her legs.
Lexa quickly shouted a command and in perfect sync, everyone started moving forward. Lexa, being the Commander, was leading the thousands of humans on their long journey to TonDC. Clarke let out a sigh, her mind running with thoughts of how someone could hold such power and still be human. It wasn't easy, that was for sure.
As the trip turned from minutes to an hour, Clarke was extremely uncomfortable and tired. She hadn't gotten much sleep last night, her worries and tears didn't allow her to. The blonde was fighting to stay awake and every time her eyes lost the battle, the horse she had been on seemed to remind her that she couldn't fall asleep.
As much as Clarke would've hung onto Lexa, she knew that in doing so she'd find comfort from the warm body, seemingly because it was there and would perhaps allow her to sleep.
She'd never find comfort in the Commander.
After a few more antagonizing minutes of nearly falling off and drifting to sleep, Clarke's arms were forcefully moved and wrapped around Lexa's body. Clarke quickly became stiff, but kept her arms there, because Lexa wanted them there— at least that's the excuse she told herself.
A blush crept over Clarke's face at the action. The blonde hadn't known if it was from embarrassment or something she completely refused to name.
"It's okay, Clarke." Again, Clarke never missed the way Lexa said her name to catch her attention.
"Rest. It is a long journey, even more so when you are nearly falling off of the horse." Lexa lightly said, probably keeping her words from prying ears.
Clarke slowly leaned her head against Lexa's back, her arms relaxed against her but still held on tight. Clarke turned her face, looking left to the miles of trees.
In some way that Clarke will never know, she had managed to scoot up without intention, or even noticing that she did it. With her front to Lexa's back, she found more comfort. Clarke tried to subtly breathe in, taking a large breathe (she had been holding it this entire time and finally remembered that her body needed oxygen to survive), a comforting scent of pine filling her nose.
With the warmth from the Commander, assurance that she could finally sleep, and something to rest against, Clarke took no time in closing her eyes and drifting to sleep.
Clarke's eyes opened. Her body no longer had the comforting body of the Commander. She was no longer on the horse.
It was dark. Stars painted the sky and Clarke couldn't seem to keep her eyes away from it, despite the situation she found herself in.
"Princess." A voice rung out.
A male voice.
Not any male voice..
Finn's male voice.
At that, Clarke looked away from the stars and in front of her stood the boy she killed. At least, she thought she did. "Finn?" In that moment, her voice betrayed her. It croaked and cracked.
Clarke let her eyes scan his body, searching for any sign that he was hurt.
She found the patch of stained blood on his shirt, where she stabbed him.
"I tried to save you..and you killed me." He spoke, his voice coated with betrayal.
"N- No. Finn, I tried to help-" Clarke could barely speak over her tears. "I had to- they would've- I couldn't let them-" She continued, tears spilling out of her eyes and her voice betraying her once more.
"Clarke."
"Clarke!"
"Clarke!"
Her eyes shot open and were met with none other than green ones.
The blonde took a moment to ground herself, looking into the brunettes eyes, noting that they were a bright green with gold specks dotting around her pupil. A small tint of blue was on the outer edges of her eyes, complementing the green greatly.
That's when Clarke realized the proximity of herself and the brunette, she was laying on the ground (on some type of fabric, probably something the grounders had let her borrow), and that Lexa's hands were on her face.
"Breathe Clarke." Lexa lowly said. It was nightfall and no one seemed to be near them. If Clarke had to guess, they were probably setting up camp somewhere and Lexa had sensed Clarke's distress.
Clarke slowly took in deep breaths, in and out. It was only then that she found a dampness to her own cheeks.
"Was I-" She croaked and no longer trusted her voice. Lexa nodded in understanding.
Clarke's eyes widened at the thought of herself being on the ground on some type of bed while everyone set up camp.
Lexa must have sensed her new distress and quickly reassured her. "Your mother set you here so that we all may search for a spot to camp. They should return shortly." The brunette managed to calm the blonde's nerves.
Lexa began to get up, assuming that her presence was no longer wanted by the blonde.
A hand on her wrist stopped her.
"Wait.."
Lexa looked at Clarke, the blonde seeming to internally battle herself with something as she bit her lip.
"Can you stay?"
