That next morning Max woke up, still frustrated about how last night went. He had finally grabbed enough courage together to make his move on her. But of course, those two friends of Madelyn had to enter the apartment when he was millimetres away from fulfilling the desire he had been walking around with for weeks now. Even though he didn't get to experience the feeling of her lips against his, he knew one thing for sure. She felt the same way. Otherwise, she wouldn't have looked him into the eyes like that, wouldn't have intertwined her fingers in his hair when he was hanging on top of her, and wouldn't have closed her eyes like him when their lips almost touched.

Max knew now he only had to finish the job. Tell her how he felt with the right words, and make their lips connect for the first time. That he now knew for sure that he wanted to set through with this and begin a relationship with her didn't mean it would be an easy thing to do for him. She still needed to be on board with this, wanting to try and make this work and hide it from everyone in the world. Because no one could know about this, or he or Madelyn would be fired from the team. And since he was the team's star, contending for a world championship, it would probably be Madelyn who would be kicked off the team if anyone found out. Max knew Madelyn loved her job and had worked really hard to get it, so the last thing he wanted was for her to get fired.

With those thoughts haunting his mind, Max got out of bed and made himself ready for the day by taking a shower and dressing in a black t-shirt with jeans. He quickly finished packing his suitcase and zipped it up when he was all done. After taking a final look around his hotel room for the last couple of days, he took his jacket and suitcase and walked out of it, heading downstairs to the hotel lobby. When he stepped out of the elevator, he saw Daniel, who had been staying at the same hotel for the entire time and would join the flight today, already waiting for him at the entrance.

"G'day, mate!" The Aussie greeted him with his familiar big smile.

"Good morning, ready to go?" Max asked when he stood next to him. Daniel nodded, and the two former teammates checked out at the reception desk before walking out of the hotel towards the car, waiting to bring them to the airport.

"Do you want to grab breakfast underway or at the airport?" Daniel asked as he lifted his suitcase into the back of the car.

"At the airport," Max answered him. "We need to make an extra stop, though." His friend looked at him confused.

"Madelyn is joining us, so we have to pick her up as well," Max explained as they got into the backseat of the car. Max passed on Madelyn's address to the driver, who started the car and drove away from the hotel.

"Ahw," Daniel put on his high-pitched voice and leaned toward the Dutchman. "I didn't know your girlfriend would join us," he whispered to him, making sure the driver in front wouldn't hear him. Max rolled his eyes and pushed him away.

"She's not my girlfriend," he mumbled softly and looked outside the window with slightly burning cheeks, thinking back at what happened last night. Or what almost happened.
