Versailles Series Book 5: The Barista

PROLOGUE

The September Ball was one of the most awaited fashion events in the country. It showcases the creations of local designers worn by distinguished celebrities. I intend to talk with Philip Quintana, the network's newly appointed CEO and Chairman but he is currently out of the country. My trip won't be wasted because I also plan to offer membership to two of their most prized talents - Asia Vallejo and Calhoun Esteves.

Calhoun Esteves is one of the most eligible bachelors, a sought-after actor, and the recently awarded best actor in the Venice Film Festival, one of the big three film festivals in the world. Asia Vallejo is also recognized in the same award-giving body in a different movie. The two started as a love team and although they never confirmed any relationship history, the two remained friends and continued to bag awards here and there.

"Hi, nice to finally meet you, Ma'am."

I waved my gloved hand. "Just call me Carrie. Ma'am makes me sound and feel old." I smiled at him behind my mesh veil. "It's nice to see you too. Oh and please, speak in Filipino if you must." I mentally rolled my eyes. My strawberry blonde hair sometimes pushes people to speak in English with me.

"Hinahanap niyo raw po ako? It's a privilege to be in your presence, Ms. Versailles."

"Please don't make it sound like I am the Queen of England. I am here as a businesswoman. At sa ating dalawa, ako ang may kailangan sa iyo. I have sent you my offer for Asia and Calhoun to be exclusive members of my leisure club."

Tumango ito. "Nabanggit ko na po sa kanila. Excited na nga po sila na makausap ka." Luminga-linga ito. "Nandito lang po iyung alaga ko. Baka marami lang kumakausap, alam niyo na po."

"That's expected. They are two of your famous talents, Jove. I'm proud. Wala kang hawak na artista na hindi makinang."

Jove Capistrano may look like a typical talent manager of celebrities but he has a way to handle his talents. He makes sure that everybody gets to explore their craft and remain in the spotlight. Lahat ng filmography ng mga talents nito ay hindi lang concentrated sa isa. Most of them are also multi-awarded and recognised internationally.

"I just make sure my talents pour their everything in their craft. Calhoun and Asia are not afraid to explore. I'm proud of them. Parang mga anak ko na ang dalawang iyon."

Both of them have pristine reputations even if they have been in the industry since they were eighteen. That's also one of the reasons why I want them in my club.

"Here's Calhoun." Sabi ni Jove at itinaas ang kamay sa papalapit na binata.

"I knew it was true when they said you are a philanthropist even if you look like a...they say...bitch."

Hinampas ito ni Jove pero natawa lang ako. It isn't the first time and I've heard worse.

Calhoun Esteves was a magnificent specimen. His Portuguese blood gave him his undeniably good looks, height, and physique. His charisma oozes as the crowd parted when he passed by. The women and even some gentlemen eyed him up and down.

He extended his hand while the other held a flute of champagne. "Calhoun Esteves. Nice to finally meet you." I extended my hand to accept his. He firmly shook it before placing his hand back in his pocket.

"Mama Jove told me you want to see me?" Sabi nito nang iwan kami ng talent manager.

"Yes. I wanted to congratulate you on your new award. I can say, Jove has a great eye for talent."
