Chapter 18:
Jaywing understood what he had to do. "Tawnyheart, Brackenflame. We have to unite the clans." He said simply, much to his sisters' shock.
"What in the name of StarClan? Why?" Brackenflame mewed, thinking immediately of how painful it had been to separate from Specklepaw, who had probably already recieved his warrior name.
Jaywing explained the threat, and how important it was that the clans had to stand as one. "But how will we convince the rest of the Clans?" Tawnyheart asked, unsure.
Jaywing racked his head, and suddenly an idea struck him like it was StarClan's gift. "I think I have an idea," he purred as soon the three cats were back to their nests.
-----
The four cats awoke, together in the same dream, to their confusion. The stony-furred she-cat was first to speak. "What are we doing here? In StarClan?" Rockpath asked the others as they shrugged.
The black tom frowned. "DarkClan has not seeked StarClan..." Tanglefur said, as he turned to the rest.
"Have we done something wrong?" the oldest cat, a cream she-cat, mewed worriedly. The AirClan cat was shaking in slight fear.
"No, Petalfall. I'm sure we were gathered for a reason," the golden tabby she-cat, also the youngest medicine cat present, purred.
"That's right Echowhisper," a familiar voice called, "I called you here for a reason indeed."
"Jaywing?!?!" the four medicine cat exclaimed at the same time.
-----
Jaywing smiled, and padded towards them. "What are you doing here? Isn't this StarClan? You aren't a medicine cat!" Tanglefur spat as Petalfall calmed him down.
"I'm sure Jaywing has a perfect reason for us to trust him, let's just listen to what he has to say," the she-cat mewed as Jaywing signalled his thanks.
"Thank you, Petalfall. I'm sure all of you remember TortureClan and Rainstorm-" Jaywing started, but already there was hissing at the name of the wretched cat.
"How would you know about him anyway? You weren't even born yet!" Echowhisper asked, but Jaywing silenced them all.
"Yes. I was not born yet. However, the threat is imminent. Rainstorm is coming back. And, he will be even more powerful than before."
"How can a dead cat attack us?" Tanglefur growled.
"He has found a way back from Place of No Stars and has been training rogues to attack us all. In fact, he may even be the reason why so many rogue scents were found in territories." Jaywing said seriously.
The cats silenced. It was true, how strange the scents had been. But was this young warrior telling the truth? "How would you know?" Petalfall mewed. Rockpath, who had remained silent so long, finally spoke. "I believe you, Jaywing. What do we have to do?"
Jaywing shot an appreciative glance before mewing, "You four, as medicine cats, are the advisors of the Clan leaders. Bring them to the Gathering Island, and there I will reveal more."
"Why should we believe you? This may all just be a lie!" Echowhisper muttered unconvinced, to Tanglefur's agreement.
"Well then, if it's proof you all need, it will be proof you all get," Jaywing mewed, before the five cats were shrouded in mist.
"Grab them by the neck!" a fierce growl was heard as shivers ran down the medicine cats' spines. "First we scare, then we SCAR them!"
The growls got louder as five of them saw the scene before them. Rogues, training in the Dark Forest. With a large grey tom they only recognised too well.
Rainstorm.
-----
"Mossstar, you must come, and Jaywing as well," Rockpath mewed to the LightClan leader the next day.
Mossstar had of course been informed of the rising threat and was in full agreement to Jaywing's plan.
The cats set off to meet the other cats, and there they saw Crowstar and Tanglefur, Featherstar and Petalfall waiting as well.
"Where's Riverstar?" they asked as Echowhisper appeared with Fishfin. "I'm sorry, but Riverstar is not well today," the MistClan deputy greeted the leaders and medicine cats.
"Well Jaywing, what do you have to say?" Crowstar asked as Jaywing nodded.
"As your medicine cats have told you, TortureClan is back, and so is Rainstorm. They have been in the Dark Forest training and have found a way to the Clans, thus explaining the rogue smell in our territories. In fact, they plan to attack all the Clans at one time, and fight even harder than they did before."
"Therefore, I propose that we each send patrols from each of the Clans to the other Clans, so that we know when to fight them as one forest." Jaywing paused, and Fishfin looked at him curiously.
"How did you know about this? You weren't even born then!" he said as Jaywing purred smoothly, "I have my ways. So, are the Clans okay with this?"
"On behalf of LightClan, I agree," Mossstar mewed seriously.
"Speaking as AirClan, I confer," Airstar said simply.
"I believe you. As deputy of MistClan, I agree in Rivertstar's place," Fishfin stated.
Crowstar threw a few quick glances at Jaywing before agreeing as well. "As leader of DarkClan, my Clan will follow as well."
Jaywing purred in his heart. His plan was really working!
The Clans would be able to unite as one and drive those snake-hearted TortureClan rogues away!
But... they will succeed, right?
