I walk around the apartment bored while Ellie sleeps. It's only 9pm and I have nothing to do.
I decide to work on my last two assignments for class and I'm so damn bored, I finish both of them. I guess I'm done with college too.
I put my computer away and walk around bored again.
I can just take a shower and lay down.
I decide on that and walk to the bathroom.
I turn the shower on and begin getting undressed when Ellie runs in the bathroom.
"Hey what's wron-"
She starts throwing up in the toilet.
I rub her back.
"What's going on? Are you ok?"
She begins throwing up again.
I continue to rub her back and move her hair out of her face.
She finally stops and brushes her teeth.
"What was that all about? Are you ok?"
"I'm not sure. I feel fine now. Maybe the pickle juice made my stomach upset" she says.
"Maybe. Do you need anything? Do you want to take a shower with me?"
"Yea I'll hop in. Throwing up always makes me feel nasty" she says with her tongue stuck out and fake gagging.
"Ok come on" I say laughing and helping her in the shower.
We finish up and we both lay in bed.
"Sorry you had to watch me puke" she says shyly.
"I've seen you throw up before. Only when you were drunk though" I say teasing her.
"Shut up" she says giggling and swatting my arm.
I hold her head to my chest and stroke her hair.
"Want to go out of town tomorrow and go to a nice breakfast place?"
"Yes that will be perfect" she says kissing my cheek.
"Ok. Get some rest beautiful" I say kissing her forehead.
I continue stroking her hair and she's out like a light. Before I know it, I am as well.
The morning comes around and Ellie is still in my arms.
I move the hair out of her face and give her a kiss on the forehead.
She moves a bit and gives me a small smile.
"Good morning beautiful"
"Good morning" she says stretching dramatically which makes me laugh.
"Ready for some food?"
"Oh my god. Yessssss" she says dragging the "yes" out.
"Ok. Get up then"
"I'm going" she says as she makes her way to the bathroom to change clothes.
She comes out in a sundress looking gorgeous.
"Wow. You look amazing"
"Thank you" she says with a cute smile.
"Shall we?"
"We shall" she says smiling.
We get in the car and head to the restaurant I suggested last night.
"Can I Bluetooth my favorite song?" She asks.
"Yes that's fine"
She connects her Bluetooth on her phone to my radio and plays "Us" by James Bay.
She dances and sings in the front seat and it's a sight to see. A beautiful sight. I could listen to her off tune singing all day. Even though she can't hold a tune at all, her voice is like angels in my ears.
She keeps looking over at me singing to me and laughing and I can't help but laugh along with her.
We finally make it to the restaurant and go inside.
I see something that I wish I never saw. Ignorance really is bliss.
My father is on a date with another woman.
I decide to walk over and confront him.
"What the fuck are you doing?"
"Jackson. What are you doing here?" He says surprised.
"I was just about to ask you the same thing Matthew. Who's the whore?"
"You watch you're tone son. Apologize now" he says angrily.
Ellie is holding on to my arm now trembling.
"Make me"
"Excuse me? You will apolagi-"
He's cut off by me hitting him in the mouth in front of the entire restaurant.
"That was for mom and no I won't apologize"
I look over to the whore.
"Just so you know, he's a piece of shit who cheats on his wife that has cancer" I tell her.
She looks surprised and leaves immediately.
"Let's go" I tell Ellie and we walk back to the car.
We're on our way to my moms house and I'm fuming.
"I'm sorry you had to see that" Ellie says grabbing my hand.
"Why are you apologizing? You're not the one cheating"
"I know but it couldn't have been easy" she says with worry in her voice.
"Well, I'm going to tell my mom about it. That piece of shit never deserved her"
"Ok. I'm behind you in any choice you make. Whatever you think is right" she says kissing my hand.
"Thank you Ellie. I love you"
"I love you Jackson" she says smiling at me.
We pull into my mom's driveway, and I get out of my car slamming the door.
I walk in the house without knocking.
"Mom" I yell.
She comes out of the kitchen.
"Hey sweetie. What are you doing here? This is a surprise" she says and hugs me and Ellie.
"I have something to tell you"
"What is it?" She asks.
"I just saw dad in a restaurant on a date with another woman"
She looks down with tears in her eyes.
"I know honey. I've known for a while now" she says crying.
"What do you mean you've known? Why are you still with him?"
"I allowed him to do this. I have cancer Jackson. I don't have a long time left here. I don't want to leave this earth knowing you're father doesn't have someone to take care of him. I gave him permission to date." She says.
"He shouldn't want to date. He made his vows and needs to honor them. With or without you're permission to cheat"
"You're still young sweetie. You wouldn't understand why I'm doing it. I just want him to be happy" she says wiping her tears.
"You don't deserve this shit mom. Not one bit of it" I say grabbing Ellie and storming out of the house in anger.
