Toby Grier; Vampire
After Sammi finishes calming the principal's annoying daughter, I brace myself for a prank as she leads us to her father's office.
But as we enter the building, I know Alesia's not lying, that she's telling the truth, that her father's been attacked. And when I breath once more, I know that it was not just any wolf. It was a werewolf.
I find myself yearning to blow my cover, to quite the human pace and zoom to the crime scene. I look over at Sammi who looks just as fidgety as I feel.
With every step closer to the office, my throat burns in longing. I haven't had human blood in years, and I can smell it wasting away, its aroma stronger outside of the body. It takes every ounce of self control I own in order to stop myself from letting my wild side take control of my actions, but I fight to stay strong.
When we do enter, there isn't one werewolf, but two. I recognize one of them as the one I'd helped earlier, the one I found in a cabin with the bullet wound. The girl.
The unfamiliar wolf, bigger than the girl, with brown eyes and black fur, a scar slashed across its eye, bites the familiar wolf in the neck, and a piercing whimper of pain comes from her muzzle.
"What the hell?!" I exclaim; the scenario will be hard dealt with if I want my identity to stay confidential. To my right, I see Sammi jump onto the bigger wolf, and I turn to help her before realizing she doesn't need any, so instead I jump to comfort the wounded girl.
Sammi and her job head to the other room, growls and hisses exchanged between the two.
Before the girl's bite can get infected, I reach into my pack for some more of my medic supplies and tend to her new wound. I work quickly, but not too quickly, not wanting to show my identity in case I know or have seen the girl. As I finish, Sammi enters the room again, just as I'm done telling the girl to stay away from the bigger werewolf. As she leaves, I turn to Sammi and confront her.
"Did you get rid of it?" I ask, frantic.
"It jumped out the window and got away," Sammi states. She's lying to me, and I can smell to dominant aromas coming from her body, both of which weren't on her before. One I recognize, it comes from the big wolf that bit the girl, the other is more of a human smell, with the same kind of sweetness to it as Ashley's.
I decide not to push her and say, "Let's go." She agrees, and we head to the front pavilion, where police cars already line the In Case Of Fire lane. They're interviewing Alesia, who sobs and sniffles as spittle flies out of her struggling mouth.
Before the police can confront me, and before Sammi can say goodbye, I take off as fast as a human could run until I'm sure I'm out of sight of school residence, and then I fly through the trees, toward my...my parents.
