rindou knows he fucked up. usually, it's his brother who does that sort of thing. but of course when it was his turn to fuck up the outcome was much worse.
because when bullets began to fly during a tense meeting to complain about another crappy shipment, he couldn't help but take cover for his brother.
now he's sitting in his shared penthouse with bonten, concocting cover-up stories to tell his beloved sister with Ran and the five executives he very much despises.
"just say sanzu went a little overboard over a dumbass joke," the white-haired moneymaker suggested.
"i'd prefer not to take on three executives — HAITANI'S today, thank you very much," sanzu replied, eyeing kokonoi.
"hmm well quite frankly it ain't no difference from two of 'em," takeomi scratched his chin, pleasantly resting his eyes on the thought of his sarcastic remark reaching top tier comedy with kakucho's echoing snicker.
rindou vanished to the kitchen, realizing they weren't going to be of any help, nor probably even cared, causing his brother to follow.
"cmon rin have faith in the-"
"There's no more faith to give." his voice boomed throughout the penthouse.
"They're out there having a good time while I'm trying to save my own damn ass from our sister, whom I promised wouldn't have to worry about her big brother on that beyond dangerous mission."
"rin. it's just a-"
ran wanted to say more, yet his words were cut off by the younger haitani's words, "since we've been in juvie all those years ago i felt though we lost time with her, you have a stronger relationship with her than me. so i'd like them to trust me on atleast this."
ah, he figured it out. recently, rindou has been attempting to spend far more time with you than usual, and ran has finally dug deep enough into rin's heart to reveal why.
he felt like a pebble getting pushed away by the sea.
but before he could even say that, the kitchen door closed. the two oldest haitani's realizing that someone was there. a certain someone who had familiar h/t hands.
that's when they both asked themselves, when did everyone stop talking?
though he winced as he followed the thumps of the stairs, he eventually saw Y/N with one hand on her bedroom door and the other fidgeting.
"you have some nerve," she exclaimed through clenched teeth.
"yeah, well, you and ran work my nerves," he responded returning back to his nonchalant nature.
rolling then narrowing her eyes, "you gonna explain the hell's going on?" raising an eyebrow.
"well, i'm not here to give you cookies and milk to tuck you in," he said as he sat on the edge of her bed, welcoming himself in her vanilla-scented room.
she stood with cross arms, reading his body language anticipating what he'd do next.
"there was a crappy shipment, i couldn't help but take cover for ran. that's all there is to it"
"yet somewhere in there you forgot to include me with the details? rindou i thought you both fucking died when i returned with kokonoi not seeing you both. especially you," she mentioned making hand gestures here and there.
that last bit hit home for rindou. in fact, his siblings were, his home. so her final words made him feel more valued than a pet performing tricks.
it may be selfish to think of him being his sisters favorite, but that thought never once slipped past his mind. he was simply enjoying the moment for what it was.
"did you ever think it was because of your reaction that i didn't tell you?" he grimaced at his own words.
he didn't intend for them to slip past his delicate lips, yet his mind somehow always makes decisions before his heart. and knowing his sister, he knew what be her next move because of it.
but the expected never became reality.
"Do you think I didn't think twice about telling you the time it was me and not ran who put that food coloring in your shampoo, that caused your hair to turn into a watermelon because of your reaction?" she asked, resting her head on his shoulder.
lifting her head to the man she admired the most, she knew he understood her point seeing as his gaze was fixed on her, "love ya you weirdo," she added, resting her head back on his shoulder.
"i question if i feel the same sometimes," he said, wrapping his arm around her smaller figure and drawing her closer to him.
the younger siblings flinched as ran suddenly made demands making his way into the room, "scoot over, there's barely any space," savoring the now family moment. because there was nothin' those three needed more than eachother.
and peeking from the doorway manjiro knew that too, wishing he could have the same.
