The day started gloomy, not quite letting on what beautiful things could happen on a day like this.

after sending a customer out the door, you sighed as you made your way to the back room for your lunch break. but seeing your co-worker kazutora, you couldn't help but stare at him with confused furrowed brows. guess your lunch break would be cut short.

"kazu, what the hell are you doing?" you asked making your way to him.

"scoopin' food for the new pet owner over there," he responded pointing to him, "what does it look like i'm doing," he continued before rolling his eyes.

there was never a reason for you two's enmity. except for the fact that he acts as if he has no common sense, the cause of most of your disputes. he's so idiotic that you often wonder if he even grew up in society at all.

he joined your team three months ago and didn't even need an interview. chifuyu just welcomed him in like it was a goddamn reunion. versus you who had to wait a week for your bosses final decision. maybe kazutora was a friend?.

to be honest, maybe your rivalry started out of jealousy.

"oh my god your so - ," exhaustedly sighing, you paused your sentence to crouch and take over the task that was previously kazu's.

you were used to it by now. you picking up after kazutora, and him still getting compliments for it. chifuyu believed in equality, so it's not like you didn't get it as well. but you thought you deserved  atleast some credit for the labor that the man didn't even do. or knows how to do.

sure, he's a huge pet lover. he certainly entertains the animals. he was, without a doubt, better at customer service than you. but what about the rest? oh, he learnt and does it with your guidance.

in fact, the situation is so bad that you wonder how he gets by on the days you are absent from work. exactly why you try to have the same schedule as him. yes, you despise him, yet for some reason you feel drawn to help him.

"you must scoop a full cup," you say, widening your eyes, implying for him to reply in some way to know he has your attention.

once he nodded his head, eyes focused on you, you continued, "then scrape off the top cause unless they want to give you a tip, they get the exact amount."

he snorted at that, not forgetting to add a playful scoff, to which you responded by giving him a stare.

"i literally just complimented you on your top-tier humor, and you thank me with a stare?" he remarked as he rose from his crouch to stretch.

once you finished packing the customer's goods, you stood up, your height differences becoming apparent.

"and I help you with your job on a daily, and as a thank you i get — nothing matter a fact," you mocked, cocking your head to the left.

each time someone replied, the dispute between you two heated up even more. the hand signals made to each other led the only client in the area to believe it was directed at him.

you let go of your grip with the dog food by accident, not paying attention to what was going on around you, simply allowing it to fall.

as the package full of goods slammed against the clasp on the australian shepherd cage, unleashing the unowned animals, the world slowed down. immediately, you knew you were fucked.

you began to lose your footing as the light furred puppies ran around you and kazutora. the opposite for the blond and black ponytail-haired man who was still able to keep his balance while avoiding stepping on puppies.

while you two were busy dancing around the issue, as he stepped into the puppy-filled room, attempting to call you for your weekly performance review, chifuyu wasn't essential or noticeable to you. but that doesn't mean kazutora didn't see him.

so kazu grabbed your waist and held it securely before you fell flat on your face, not wanting you to embarrass yourself in front of chifuyu, your boss.

though he held your waist firmly, his hands were delicate at the same time. the one hand on the higher part of your waist made your stomach flutter and tingly.

despite the fact that he had a solid grip on your waist, his hands were delicate. your stomach fluttered and tingled as he rested one palm on the higher section of your waist.

that one consumer had long since been forgotten, locked in the recesses of your three minds.

"sometimes, I really want to lock you up in the conference room and throw away the key," chifuyu mentioned with a tsk, going back to his office.

clearing up the tremendously uncomfortable air but making it a little more tense on you and kazutora's part, "and instead of cuddling, regroup all of those puppies!"

"yes sir!" you both responded in sync.

"you know, you're a great debater," the man beside you muttered once chifuyu was out of sight.

"shut. up."

later they would say it was love at first sight, but both knew it was a long road they had to take to get here.
