Ship: Pip x Reader

Trigger Warnings: Slightly mature language.

The song below happens to be sung by Pip during the oneshot so if you want to play it when it reaches that part then here it is!

The sound of some kind of jazzy music shot through your ears as you strolled through the large open doors, with the scent of nicotine and roses greeting you straight away.

The room was crowded with excited souls and confident nobodies all wanting a chance to change their fate and become something big.

Now this wasn't something you were entirely looking for, although it would have been nice to leave with some extra cash at the end of the day. No in all honesty, you just wanted a nice night out with your friends, of which were staring the building up and down in awe.

With no hesitation, most of them headed off to play a game or two at the tables, with a couple of them also heading to the bar hoping to get pissed enough to forget their sorrows for just the night.

Upon realising that they had all basically abandoned you for their own pleasures, you sighed and took a wander. You noticed the excitement and pain that seemed to enclose the building, with some winning everything they could have ever wanted while others lost the only things they had. The entire thing seemed like a deadly cycle, with those who continued to win being urged on by one of the workers there.

The main one that you kept seeing about was some die-headed dude who seemed to continuously patrol the tables, keeping an eye out for cheaters or anyone trying to start up drama.

You didn't take too much notice of him mind, instead you found yourself focusing on the stage.

For the most part, there seemed to be just some casual jazz band, made up of instruments and other object headed folks. It was obvious that they weren't new to job, with their hands gracefully moving to play the instruments in just the right way. A few members of the band were even playing it with their eyes shut, relaxed in the spotlight. They seemed...content with their job, just continuously playing tunes as if nothing else mattered. As if no one else mattered at that moment.

That was until a velvet red curtain swung down from above, surrounding the stage until it was hidden from sight.

You froze out of confusion, staring at the place where the band used to be. A voice from beside you seemed to spot it too.

"Ah finally, a proper performance! I have been here for almost an hour now and yet the only music I've heard was the constant melody they kept playing," Some gent claimed, holding a wine glass to his chin.

"Performances have specific times Gerald! And besides, the one that we only just missed seemed to just be some pathetic stripper dance thing. At least this guy is going to be singing something rather than flailing his body about as if he has nothing to lose," A woman beside him claimed, giving a death stare to what you could only assume to be her husband.

Before the man could retaliate, the lights faded down until there was just a slight tint of blue in the air. Everyone's attention was seemingly drawn to the stage of which the curtains were slowly rising.

Darkness hovered over the platform for a moment even with the curtain being completely embedded into the ceiling again, until a small spotlight flickered on revealing someone that caught you off guard.

It was a small male, no bigger than 5'3, standing in the center of the stage, holding a microphone in his left hand. Golden eyes shimmered in the light with his porcelain face also being drawn out in just the perfect lighting. Under his domino face, was a teal suit, with a white waistcoat and a bright red bowtie.

The jazz band, which had appeared yet again behind him, waited for a flick of hand before playing some kind of tune. The tune itself held energy that the original music that once haunted the casino seemed to lack. The man on stage, gently tapped his foot along with the rhythm, clearly waiting for the song to reach his part. And once it did, it left you speechless.

"Hey folks, here's a story about Minnie the Moocher

She was a red hot hoochie-coocher

She was the roughest toughest frail

But Minnie had a heart as big as a whale"

Once the chorus hit, you found yourself being yet again caught off guard by the call and response of the crowd.

"Hi de hi de hi de hi

(Hi de hi de hi de hi)

Ho de ho de ho de ho

(Ho de ho de ho de ho)

Hee de hee de hee de hee

(Hee de hee de hee de hee)

Hi de hi de hi de ho

(Hi de hi de hi de ho)"

As the song continued on, you found yourself in a trance, watching as he moved about the stage with the song, embracing the music as he danced and swayed perfectly in beat.

Never once did you take your eyes off of him. Not like you would have been able to if you actually wanted to anyway.

Eventually the song came to an end and cheers erupted from the crowd as he bowed, a smiling striding across his face. Those golden eyes from earlier explored the crowd for a short moment before they came to a halt, stuck within your gaze.

Your eyes appeared to surprise him, as his face switched between a look of confidence to a more unreadable one. After a few seconds, he drew back, pulling a confident smirk once again before strolling off of the stage.

You were left standing there, attempting to recover from the performance. No other man had left you that flabbergasted before and yet it took a simple song to get you to fall for his charm.

You knew full well that you were going to need to see him again if you ever wanted to put your mind at ease.
