chapter three- now we're even!

"so, we meet again,"

i looked at shiden awkwardly. what was i even supposed to say? i just stood there, no idea what to say or do.

"hurry up, you two. you're falling behind," kasane said through brain talk. shiden scoffed, rolled his eyes and then started walking again. i also started walking again, trying to catch up to kasane.
    "hey-um, i'm sorry about what i said back there about the volunteer soldiers. it wasn't right of me," shiden apologised.
    "okay? it's nice of you to try apologise, but that was pretty stupid of you," i responded, not buying it.
    "don't think me apologising is me trying to be nice! i'm just- umm-"
    "yeah right," i rolled my eyes and started walking faster, getting closer to where kasane was.

there were a couple others in this area. pretty basic, just buddy rummy and plateau pendu.

"y/n take the left, shiden take the middle, and i'll take the right" kasane quickly ordered.

i concentrated, and used my power to form two spinning saw blades. i used those to fight the others, which were pretty easy to take out.

the three of us pushed forwards, and soon, we were at the location.
    "wow! team kasane is first to the goal!" haruka, our platoon's operator, cheerfully announced over brain talk.
    "team shiden would've also made it first," shiden muttered, still mad he couldn't have been leader.
kasane went quiet.
    "shh, something's here," she whispered.
    "i sense it too..." i replied.
    "good one! you guys picked up on the other before i did! wait a minute... it's a major other!"
haruka then told gemma and kyoka about it.
    "major others are others that killed OSF members in the past," naomi explained.
my eyes widened. we were going to face one on our first mission?
    "yes," kyoka confirmed.
    "here it comes, i'll intercept," kasane said, preparing herself for battle.
    "we'll be there in a few minutes. just, hold on," kyoka added.
    "contact with a major other... don't overdo it kasane! shiden, y/n, follow her lead," haruka advised.
i was not ready for this. it was only my first mission... i had only become an OSF recruit yesterday. wasn't it too early for this? what if i died? even worse, what if someone else dies? what if-
   "tch, don't be nervous. i'll take it down easily," i must've been looking really worried, because shiden seemed to have noticed.
    "okay..." i managed to say. it didn't really help, but i appreciated the gesture.

that's when the other jumped down from above. it was absolutely huge. it was terrifying. a dispen perry. we all readied ourselves for combat.
    "now we're talking. hope you're ready to see how strong i am!" shiden bravely walked up to the other and brandished his baton at it.
    "don't just walk straight into it, you idiot. are you trying to get yourself killed?" i told shiden.
    "SHUT UP," he shouted back.
kasane rolled her eyes.
    "quit barking then, it's time to show some bite!"

shiden went in with his electrokinesis attacks and kasane hit it with objects using her psychokinesis. i started making more heavy objects for kasane to use. she proceeded to fire them at its water tank, which was slowly weakening, then eventually broke.
"the tank's broken! use my power with SAS," shiden instructed.
both me and kasane activated it, and all three of us were fighting the dispen perry with electricity. since the water tank broke, and the other was covered in water, the shocks did extra damage.
soon, the other didnt get up, and was just laying on the floor.
shiden walked closer to it.
"did we do it?,"
everyone fell silent.
suddenly, the other was starting to get back up, it definitely was not dead. it got ready to swipe at shiden. he got his weapons ready, but against the huge other, he might not have had a chance.
    "watch out!" i hit the other with my makeshift sawblades, and used my power to make a large heavy box above the other, and dropped it on top. the dispen perry disappeared in a flash of scarlet petals.
shiden turned towards me.
    "what the hell do you think you're doing!? i can protect myself, thank you very much!"
    "hey, at least we're even now! you saved me, i saved you," i said with a laugh.
    "first of all, i thought you said i didn't save you? and secondly, YOU DIDN'T SAVE ME, i didn't need your help!!" he protested.
    "you're welcome!" i said.
"ugh y/n you're just so..."
out of nowhere, a bunch of drones started flying in, and taking photos.
"huh?" i said, confused.
shiden glanced at me.
    "those are the crows. media drones."
the crows swarmed kasane, taking photos and announcing her huge victory.
"they're annoying, you don't want them surrounding you."
i heard kasane tell the drones something about shiden.
    "shiden gave all the orders, ask him about it,"
    "what!?"
the crows all started swarming him, and he looked beyond annoyed. i laughed to myself. i felt bad, but the situation was kinda funny.

kyoka, naomi and gemma entered the area.
    "so sorry i'm late, that was a good fight!" kyoka started, then saw the situation with the crows, "oh dear... poor shiden,"
arashi spring came in with a brain talk to the group.
    "this is arashi. sorry, it looks like you've caught the crows' attention."
    "arashi, you're right! they got shiden,"
soon arashi came in and led the crows away, and the platoon was free again.
    "they're finally gone! let's go back to suoh, everyone." kyoka said.

the whole platoon soon got back to suoh.
naomi was pointing out an OSF recruit on TV.    
"is that yuito?"
    "you mean yuito as in- yuito sumeragi?" i asked.
    "yeah, looks like he's in seto platoon," kasane added.
    "why do you ask y/n? do you know yuito?" naomi asked, curious.
    "yeah! i've known him for a couple of years!" i answered.
    "damn, why'd he get on seto platoon," shiden muttered.
    "huh?"
    "good work today everyone! we had some trouble, but nobody got hurt, so it was a good day!" kyoka smiled.
"your assignment for today is over. your next orders will be sent directly from the higher ups."
she then explained the rules surrounding the different types of assignments.

"oh- seto!" kyoka spotted seto platoon.
