chapter two- so we meet again

i was going to meet my platoon. i was honestly so excited!
i was told to report to headquarters, so i did.
at headquarters, an osf official informed me that i was in kyoka platoon, and that they were waiting to meet me.
i went to the location i was told to go to. there was an osf recruit with long light purple hair, and pretty red eyes.
   "hello!!" she said, "i'm kyoka eden... you must be y/n! i'll be your platoon leader. come and meet the everyone else!"

kyoka was with two other girls. they were new recruits, who were in my class. kasane and naomi randall. however, i didn't know them very well.
"hello y/n! you were in our class, right? i'm naomi! remember me? it's nice that we're in the same platoon!" said naomi with a huge smile.
"yeah, i remember you! it's nice to see a familiar face- hehe," i responded, feeling a bit nervous. kasane and naomi were really strong. kasane finished at the top of our class, and naomi finished fifth, so they were pretty much elites.
"it's always great to have people you know with you! isn't it, kasane?" naomi nudged kasane, asking her to join the conversation.
"yeah, sure." kasane said.
"oh- so you all know each other? that's great then! the rest of our platoon is over there, you should get to know them better!!" kyoka smiled, and led us to where our platoon was.

"let's welcome our new members for this year!! kasane, naomi, y/n, introduce yourselves!" kyoka announced to the rest of our platoon.
"kasane randall. my power is psychokinesis. pleased to meet you."
"is that all? you seem shyer than i thought," kyoka said, "all right, next."
"yes ma'am- i'm naomi randall. i'm kasane's older sister and my power is precognition, i can only see the immediate future though. i'll do my best to help everyone out! i don't have much experience, but i'm glad to be here!!" naomi said, bright and energetic.
"that was a very good introduction naomi! now how about you, y/n!" kyoka smiled and gestured towards me.
"oh- uhmm... hey! i'm y/n and my power is morphekinesis! i can form objects and shapes out of thin air, and control them afterwards. it's pretty neat, i can make a bunch of weapons! however, things i make disappear after a while, and it exhausts me a lot to make large things, and multiple things. hope we can be friends!!" i said to everyone.

"good job y/n! now, these are our new members. they all finished at high places in their class, and they're all very intelligent and very talented. that being said, they're just little ducklings who barely have their footing, so you all need to help them out." kyoka added, "now i'd like to welcome shiden, who just transferred from kodama platoon. please introduce yourself"
wait... that name sounded familiar. and the guy looked familiar. shiden, as in shiden ritter? wasn't that the guy that saved me earlier??
    "shiden ritter, my power is electrokinesis. i don't plan on being your friend."
our eyes met. did he recognise me...?
"looks like you're still in your rebellious phase..." kyoka teased.
"what?" shiden said, his angry tone cutting through the air.
"let's see... gemma! you know shiden, right?"
this guy was on my platoon? i'm grateful that he helped me out earlier, but he honestly didn't seem very nice, and i didn't like him very much. but he seemed... interesting. something about him drew me to him.
"oh- looks like i forgot to introduce myself! i'm kyoka eden, and my power is duplication!"
i couldn't pay attention. my head didn't feel right.
    "i'm gemma garrison. my power is sclerokinesis,"
god, it felt like my head was splitting in two. i was having a really bad headache. i usually got them, but it this time it was really bad.

    "i guess there's no volunteer soldiers here..." shiden said.
in the background, i heard naomi explain to kasane what a volunteer soldier was. someone who joins the osf not because they were scouted, but because they wanted to. i already knew that. my friends yuito and nagi were volunteer soldiers, so we were trained at different facilities.
    "they're trash compared to scouts like us," shiden muttered.
i glared at him, snapped out of whatever pain i was feeling.
    "excuse me? what did you just say?"
    "what...? you mad, huh?"
     "you can't just categorise a whole group of people into 'weaker than scouts like us'. who the hell does that? only a close-minded, unintelligent bastard." i angrily hissed at him.
he opened his mouth to shoot back a retort, but kyoka intervened.
"now, now, let's not fight y/n... but shiden, that kind of behaviour is unacceptable, i will not tolerate this kind of discrimination in my platoon,"
that shut him up.
this guy was annoying, and stupid, and i hated him.

now it was time for our first mission.
me, kasane and shiden were deployed in mizuhagawa to fight off some others. hah, great. me and two people who probably hated me.
"i'll lead," kasane said, and walked ahead.
"what- HEY! you can't just-" shiden protested.
kasane ignored him and walked faster, closer to our destination. we were told to exterminate all the others throughout this route.

while kasane kept her fast pace, me and shiden lagged behind. it was awkwardly silent, neither of us really had anything to say.
"it's you, isn't it," shiden said, out of nowhere.
"huh? what are you talking about?" i asked in confusion.
"suoh. the other attack. you're the one i saved." he smirked, probably thinking this meant something to me.
"saved? nahh. the most you did was help me out a little," i narrowed my eyes.
"so, we meet again,"
