chapter seven- the subway

we were all gathered in a certain part of the abandoned subway. me, shiden, gemma, naomi, kasane and kyoka.
    "kyoka platoon has assembled!" haruka said over the comms.
    "thank you, haruka," said kyoka.

"okay, so you've all heard the situation from haruka. It looks like there's a large swarm of others in these abandoned subway lines. the extinction belt has descended to lower altitudes, so now they're underground. i'm sure you all know about it, but let's confirm for the newbies. Naomi, tell us what you know about the extinction belt."
    naomi explained that the extinction belt was an abnormal phenomenon that is gathered near earth's stratosphere and surrounds the whole planet. others come from the extinction belt.
    "that's right. so, you should never go near a place where the extinction belt is thick. others could show up anywhere, it is very dangerous. also, the extinction belt contains particles that could jam our communications. If that happens, you can only count on haruka's telepathy."
    "without the help of the communicator, my telepathy will only transmit one way," haruka added, "pray the communicators don't go down."
    "i'll also have to take control of the whole company, so gemma will be temporary platoon commander."
    "what!? why gemma?" shiden complained. i rolled my eyes.
    "shiden, if you have a complaint, we'll talk about it after the operation. gemma, i'm counting on you!" kyoka said.

"this will be a joint operation between the seventh and eighth company from the first regiment, and the first and second company from the second regiment. this is a large scale operation, so i want you all to refrain from going off on your own." kyoka left, and gemma turned to us.
    "kyoka platoon, maintain the front line and move toward point alpha. shiden, kasane, y/n and i will connect our SAS. naomi will support us from the rear. move out."
    "understood," we all said.

our platoon weaved through the maze of tunnels. if we didn't have haruka telling us where to go, we'd most likely get stranded. plus, the place looked like a total wreck.

after a few minutes of walking, we finally encountered others. i pulled my staff out, and got ready to fight. kasane glanced at me, and i nodded back. i used my power to make a variety of objects kasane could use to fight. i tried to play more a supportive role, but i could still fight for myself. the four of us took out the group of others quite quickly. we continued walking, with naomi following us, supporting our rear.

i was focusing on getting to the destination, when naomi sent me a brain message.
hey y/n! do you wanna hang out sometime, i think it'd be nice to get to know each other!!
i smiled.
sure! it would be nice!

i followed everyone in my platoon as we got close and closer to the location. we encountered a few groups of others here and there, but it wasn't anything big.
before we knew it, the five of us had made it to the marked location. kasane was about to rush ahead, but gemma stopped her.
    "Kasane, stop," he then turned and gave an update.
"Kyoka platoon has made it to point alpha."
    "seto platoon is two minutes behind. signal when you rendezvous and-"
haruka was cut off, and the connection weakened. what happened?
then we could hear haruka's voice again, but faint, and hard to hear. "others... above... get out!"
    "what? i can't hear you?" kasane said, looking confused. all of us were desperately trying to get an answer from haruka. then naomi shouted out.
    "i see them! they're coming from above in 20 seconds! get out of the way!!"
    "is that your precognition?" shiden asked, "spread out!"
just in time, we all jumped out of the way, as the ceiling caved in. there were a large group of others, and they looked ready to kill.
    "naomi! get to seto platoon and ask for reinforcements! the rest of you, get ready to take out the others!" gemma ordered. naomi nodded and dashed off, and the rest of us got ready.

there were so many of them. i pulled out my staff and got ready to fight. i used my power to make sharp blade-like shapes, and shot them at a nearby scummy pool. i then followed up with a closer attack, easily killing it. it disappeared in a flurry of red petals. i then turned to face a rainy rummy that snuck closer while i was distracted. i pointed my staff to the area above it, and focused. i made a solid block that fell on top of the other, stunning it. i then brain-crushed it, finishing it.

we all fought with everything we had. but no matter how many we killed, or how hard we fought, they all just kept coming. i was starting to get a little tired.
    "i wonder where the other platoons are..." kasane said.
    "you're right, there were supposed to be over 40 people deployed here," shiden replied.
    "i don't see anyone else around point alpha..." gemma added.
    "what if the others got them...?" i worried.
    "i hope not,"
then, seto platoon arrived, along with naomi.
    "kyoka platoon, disperse!" captain seto called, "they're coming from above!"
the space started caving in on itself. rubble was falling from above. i dodged as much as i could, sometimes i had to use my power to block. before i knew it, everyone was completely separated.

i was all alone, i couldn't see or hear anyone. i was surrounded by debris. maybe i could break through it? no, i shouldn't exhaust myself. i just sat there as long as i could, hoping someone would find me. maybe i should try brain talk. maybe, just maybe there was someone nearby that would be able to hear me.

"hello? it's me, y/n... can anyone hear me? i may or may not be completely trapped? anyone?"

please, let someone hear me...

"i can hear you loud and clear. i'll see if i can find you,"

someone heard me? wait, that voice...

"shiden? is that you?"

"yes,  it is. now send me your location, i'll see if i can get to you."

i was relieved.
