After over three months
four breakdowns
one too many midnights and broken laws later
Ive come out from the umbrella and into the rain
under the stars and over myself
caught, fifteen miles between you and me.
Eyeing the message man
behind his message stand, dodging bullets left and right
because everyone shoots the message man.
Juggling predictable talk with people made of honey, throwing sugar on them to stick hoping the flatlines of this small man will breathe them life.
I want them to leave.
Take their blessings and walk to the edge of this flat earth
and leave this message man alone.
and as the waterfalls,
everyone melts, slips away as runoff,
and it's just me and the message man,
with you,
fifteen miles away.
So I put my best foot forward
and the message man smirks
tell him, message man, fifteen miles from you and me,
I didn't mean a thing.
The bullets from my mouth slipping through you
when I couldn't feel
and you felt everything.
After all, It never takes long to love someone who can't love themselves.
Tell him, message man, that this is not a showdown
yet I can feel the rumble of dusk meeting dawn.
"Oh but here's the thing" the message man interjects:
"I can tell you're looking for answers
in the same way your looking for him,
fifteen miles in the distance"
The message man smiles.
"If I didn't have so much of this life wrong I would've gotten it right by now. I talk too much tryna sound smart
when I only know one thing:
I know everything is out there. That's why it's called everything.
I know he's fifteen miles away and that's a lifetime to walk. But you will walk, sprint your way fifteen miles from this message stand,
and out from the umbrella into the rain you will have a moment of brilliance that will grow into perfect words of order and you will know what you want."
The message man fades
fifteen miles shine
And I know what I want.
