i sat there in awe
wondering how many came before me
sitting under this very tree
watching the scene they once saw
the lakes shone
their opal eyes staring at me
as if they could see right through
the facade i put up in front of skin and bone
my temptations guided me towards a lake
as i dived in, it wrapped me in the warmest blanket of cold
as though it could feel my heart ache
i felt myself floating as darkness spread
the bitter cold, now all i felt
i would've followed my fears and let go
to the realm of the poets
those who i long to know
but i tightened my grip
and held onto the golden thread
the one that tied me to life
and away from death
