A/N

As I was writing the story I realized I was listening to a lot of music scores and I typically like reading while listening to them. So I came up with an idea to provide you with music that you can listen to while reading my story.

I made a Spotify playlist that will have a new addition to it as the story goes along. The tenth song on the playlist corresponds to this chapter. :)

You can find it here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2otIKWcR3th5fkswnUDXNe?si=67f0ff1aa8a1408d

It was as if the world was moving in slow motion, he finally saw him, the one he had searched for all these 3 years and here he was slipping through his fingers yet again.

Add that to the running list of things he - Sasuke Uchiha gloriously failed at. No matter how much he trained Naruto was always ahead, he failed, worst of all he froze up when he saw his long-lost teammate. Even Sakura and Sai did something, while he just stood there speechless.

If he could just rewind and go back to the very moment he set his eyes on the Naruto in front of him and be strong enough to fight and drag him back to the village just like the blond boy did back for him three years ago at the Valley. But the moment has now passed, time moves unapologetically, it doesn't give you rewinds and second chances.

Naruto has left yet again, this time Sasuke knew they'd cross paths again. The blond boy promised that he'd return to destroy the Leaf village. When? Only time would tell. But they had to prepare for it. He had to prepare for it, despite what they all said about Naruto he was not a lost cause.

If the roles were reversed Sasuke had no doubt Naruto would never give up on him, and neither would he. He would find a way to stop the blond boy from causing havoc and destruction to the place he once called home.

Despite his own painful upbringing the more he learned about Naruto's past from classified documents and reports, the more he realized that he didn't know the extent of Naruto's pain, but for one he could understand how pain as deep as this could bring anguish and despair to oneself and drive them into revenge-fuelled insanity. Sasuke still wanted revenge for the murder of his parents and his clan, he wanted to kill Itachi but finding Naruto became a bigger priority. This time around Sasuke had a chance to stop someone precious to him from becoming a monster, he had a chance, and he would take it and give it all he got. Because selfishly speaking he wouldn't handle losing someone else to darkness like that again.

As they moved through the forest towards Konoha, thoughts about Naruto never left Sasuke and he wondered where the blond teammate of his was and what he was up to.

After Naruto was sucked into the portal with Tobi he found himself in one of the cave hideouts that the Akatsuki occupied. The view of the room was becoming clear as he was abruptly pushed into one of the stone walls, hitting his shoulder in the process.

"What the heck Naruto?" The Akatsuki in the orange mask growled out in his normal deep voice. "I told you not to overdo it!"

"Heh, what are you talking about?" Uzumaki asked with an innocent look on his face.

"What am I talking about? What AM I TALKING ABOUT?!" The orange masked Akatsuki yelled out angrily "You almost blasted these leaf ninjas with your Rasenshuriken Jutsu, I told you not to kill any of the leaf ninjas, we don't need any unnecessary attention from the hidden villages just yet."

"Jeez sorry, what can I say I got a bit carried away ya know," Naruto said shrugging his shoulders.

"Well try not to! Thanks to that little scene you made they are now aware of your abilities and will be better prepared" Tobi replied in an annoyed tone, Naruto was sure the man held a frown under that mask.

"Ya ya, so what? It's not like there are a lot of people out there that can match up to me or Pain, there are like six of them and I can use some of the nine tails chakra" the whiskered blond replied.

"Fine, but you better be training and preparing for your next missions and I don't want to hear about your outbursts anymore," Tobi said before he swirled away in his portal, leaving the blond alone with his thoughts

Naruto was confident in the skills he had developed over the past three years. He had learned how to apply his wind style chakra to his katana and was able to combine it with his Rasengan to create the Rasenshuriken. Tobi also trained him in combat and his taijutsu was well developed. During the times when he raided Tobi's place, he found the chains that the masked man used in combat and he bribed Tobi into teaching him how to use them.

Over the year Tobi became somewhat of a sensei to Naruto. It's not like the blond forgot why he joined Akatsuki in the first place and his eventual revenge plan, but it didn't hurt to play clueless for the time being and get the most of his time with Akatsuki. Besides, it wasn't the first time Naruto had to play dumb and pretend.

It surprised the teen when he learned that Tobi was no older than his Team 7 sensei Kakashi. The face reveal happened by accident when Naruto sliced through one of his masks with his wind Jutsu. The masked Akatsuki had a nasty scar on the left side of his face and short black hair. Judging by his looks he looked a lot like an Uchiha would, especially with that sharingan of his. But Naruto never questioned his origins, what did it matter he'd kill the bastard when the right time came.

Much to Naruto's dismay Tobi's sharingan came in handy during his nine-tails chakra training but without the key to the seal, Naruto couldn't achieve a full tailed-beast transformation. Apparently ripping off the seal could potentially kill him, so the only option was to find that key. Naruto has wanted to try ripping it off for quite some time. After all, he wanted to become stronger not only for the sake of destroying Konoha but also carrying out his revenge plan to ultimately kill Tobi.

Maybe it was reckless of him and dumb, but he felt like that might lead him to finding that key or at least pinpointing a person that has it. He couldn't do it with Tobi breathing down his neck the whole time but seems like he and Deidara were set to go on a mission for a few days giving Naruto just enough time to test his hypothesis.
