Chapter 14: The Sensei and The Student

Jiraya was in shock as his suspicions appeared to be correct. The Akatsuki were all his students' doing.

Konan, Nagato, Yahiko

Although the latter was still to be seen Jiraya had a chilling suspicion that something was not right.

As he fought off the dog summoning, Jiraya was gathering up chakra and strength to get into sage mode.

The toad sage has been fighting Pain, as he'd liked to call himself, for some time now.

In reality, Pain was one of his past students. Pain was Nagato, although something was not quite right here and Jiraya had to figure out what it was soon or else this mission would end up an utter failure.

He had to stop Nagato or Pain whatever name he now held before it was too late.

Jiraya made sure to send a messenger toad to Minato and cautioned him to not come searching and make his presence known. He also sent along the key to Naruto's seal that he swore to keep safe after Minato's death. Now that the Fourth Hokage was miraculously brought back it would be safer with him, especially with Jiraya going into battle. Whatever was going to happen to him today he had to deal with it himself after all Nagato was his student, in a way he was still his responsibility.

It made him think of Naruto, not only the young boy was his student too but also his godson.

Another student that chose the path of darkness.

Jiraya blamed himself for this. If he had just come back for Naruto when he was young, checked in on him and was involved in the boy's life, things wouldn't have turned out the way they did.

Naruto grew up alone, he went through things even adults wouldn't bear to endure, yet the boy was strong. Despite being pushed around he kept on smiling, but we all reach our limit at some point and so did Naruto.

No matter what he tried to do he was seen as a demon, a monster, no matter how much he wished he was seen differently it was never the case, instead, he was looked down on more. His success was only seen as a threat, a threat that had to be exterminated before it had a chance to bloom. In a way that blond kid was like a time ticking bomb, storing all that hurt in him. Until that day, that incident after he brought back Sasuke snapped him, and Jiraya didn't get there in time.

He was late...again. Just as he was about to take the kid on a 3-year training trip. He was just a day away from Konoha when the news of Naruto's escape and Minato's impossible return reached him. One sentence in that letter he got sent chills down his spine.

Naruto killed an entire ANBU squad.

He tried not to believe it but as he reached the scene that was still being cleaned up he couldn't believe his eyes.

It was a bloodbath out there. The bodies were taken away but the splatters of crimson red on the tree trunks, the grass, and the leaves were a grim reminder of a crime that was made here, a violent one at that.

And it was all Naruto? The blue-eyed blond boy with a warm smile? It seemed impossible but unfortunately, that was the truth.
