Meeting Shin

Today, my dad is meeting the new recruits and he's letting me tag along since I'm next in line for the throne so I should start learning how things work in the palace.

My dad and I walk up onto this little stage that someone set up. I sit on the chair that has my name on it but my dad stands in front of the microphone.

"Welcome recruits!" My dad's booming voice echoes in the room.

"As you may know, being one of the guards in the palace is a huge privilege. Everyone in the kingdom looks up to you so we only choose people that are kind, considerate and understanding. Guards will provide protection to the people in this kingdom and as you take on this role that will be your number one priority so if you don't think that's something you can commit to then you may leave now" My dad says his speech.

My dad is loved by many. They like that he truly cares about his people and listens to them. I hope when I take over that I can lead this kingdom as well as he's doing now.

I see Chaeryeong in the crowd and I give her a little wave but she doesn't wave back which makes me sad. It's definitely her busy time of the year.

After dad's speech, everyone disperses. I excuse myself from my dad and go to where Chaeryeong is. She's talking to some tall girl, maybe that's the girl she's seeing. Did she recruit her girlfriend to become a guard so they can spend time together?

"Hey Chaeryeong" I happily greet her.

I face the tall girl and she gives me a weird look. Chaeryeong immediately hits her, "That's the princess."

"I'm so sorry" the tall girl bows to me.

"It's okay" I smile, "What's your name?"

"Shin Yuna, Your Royal Highness" She's still bowing to me.

"Nice to meet you, my name is Yeji though" I introduce myself.

"But you're not allowed to call her that" Chaeryeong nags Yuna.

"You two seem to know each other well? Did you know each other before recruitment?" I ask.

"Yes. Chaeryeong took care of me when my family was no longer a family. I don't know how I would have survive if she didn't take care of me. I want to become royal guard so I can help others the way she helped me" Yuna proudly claims.

I wonder what happened to her family.

"That's sweet. So you two are not dating?" I ask.

"What makes you think I'm dating someone?" Chaeryeong ask.

"We're not dating. Chaeryeong is more like my sister" Yuna claims.

"Answer my question, Princess" Chaeryeong says in her very serious tone.

"Lia told me you might be because you're not sleeping with her anymore" I say.

"You're sleeping with someone?" Yuna looks at Chaeryeong, surprised.

"Why is my personal business suddenly out in the open?" Chaeryeong doesn't answer the question.

"She was" so I answer for her.

"By the way, Your Royal Highness, you're very beautiful. Everyone in the kingdom will be shocked once they see how pretty you are" Yuna compliments me.

"Thank you, you're very beautiful yourself, very model like. Are you sure you want to be a royal guard?" I chuckle.

"I have to be. It's the only way I can bring my family back together" Yuna sadly say.

"If you don't mind me asking, what happened to your family?" I ask.

"And how would being a royal guard help achieve that?" I add.
